Title: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play
Post by: antithesis on 06:01 PM - 09/07/21
Regardless of the DualSense requirement in new or newly patched PS5 games, all of them can still be played using a XIM 4 or XIM APEX over Remote Play at 4K 60FPS and 1080p 120 FPS.

A DualSense controller on XIM APEX (requires beta firmware from https://xim.tech/beta (https://xim.tech/beta)) works for PC Remote Play, so a PS4 controller is not needed. A DualShock 4 V2 works in Remote Play on PC, Mac or PS4.

What you'll need for Remote Play to PS5 -

1. PC, Mac or PS4.
2. PS Remote Play app.
3. DualSense (PC only), or DualShock 4 V2 controller (Mac, PC & PS4).
4. XIM APEX (or XIM 4), mouse & keyboard (or Nav, Azeron etc).
5. A data or sync USB cable for the controller.

To minimise input lag (optional, but highly recommended) -

1. Gigabit ethernet network switch, or PS5 wired to the router or modem. PS5 and PC, Mac or PS4 should be wired to the same network switch, router or modem. Always use ethernet for online gaming if you care about performance.
2. Cat 5E or better ethernet cables.
3. If you don't have a wired ethernet, use gigabit Wifi 6 or input lag will be an issue and you should stop reading this now.
4. DualSense functions at 250Hz over USB. Set the XIM APEX Response Rate to 250Hz to avoid purple XIM APEX LED flashing, which indicates USB desync and will cause input lag.

OBsIV confirmed that PS5 wired to PC wired input over Remote Play is < 1ms roundtrip, so lag is not an issue over gigabit ethernet. If Remote Play input is lagging, check your setup.

Setup -

1. Start the PS5 console and login to your PSN Account.
2. Activate Remote Play in PS5 > Settings > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.
3. Select the Link Device option in PS5 Remote Play settings. A code will display for use on PC, Mac or PS4.
4. Swap to PC, Mac or PS4. Download and install the PS Remote Play app.
5. Login to your PSN account in the Remote Play app on PC, Mac or PS4.
6. Click the Gear icon at bottom-left of the Remote Play app.
7. Set Resolution to 360p and Framerate to High. Disable Use Keyboard for text. These settings minimise lag over Remote Play. Close the popup window to return to Remote Play's main window.
8. Connect a DualSense (PC only) or DualShock 4 V2 controller to XIM. Other controllers do not work.
9. Connect XIM to PC, Mac or PS4.
10. Select PS5 in the Remote Play app on PC, Mac or PS4 to connect to the PS5 console.
11. Remote Play will search for PS5 connections over the Internet. If Remote Play doesn't automatically find your PS5, let it time out after a few minutes, then enter the Link Device code from step 5 to establish a Local Network connection. This is critical to minimising input lag - always use Local, not Internet.
12.DO NOT use the Remote Play app to view your game, use the screen connected to the PS5. If you only have one screen, setup your Remote Play connection in the steps above, then swap the HDMI input back to PS5 when you're ready to play.
13. Start a PS5 game using your XIM mouse, keyboard or XIM-connected controller.
14. Optional - to start Remote Play while your PS5 console is in rest mode, select  Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Then turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
15. To quit Remote Play, close the app on PC, Mac or PS4.

Regular Use -

1. Turn on PS5 using the power button. Ignore if PS5 is in Rest Mode and Step 14 is enabled.
2. Connect XIM with mouse, keyboard & DualSense (or DS4 V2) to PC.
3. Start Remote Play app and connect to your PS5.
4. Enter the PSN user account password in Remote Play if one is set.
5. Use the screen or HDMI input connected to PS5 to view the game.

This solution works in all DualSense-restricted PS5 games. Input lag from XIM is minimal over gigabit ethernet. I honestly couldn't notice it in Remote Play due to the local network connection from the XIM on PC or Mac (both tested) to the PS5.

Caveats -

1. If only one DualSense controller is available, use the DualSense > PS button > Accessories > Wireless Controller > Turn Off option on PS5 to swap the DualSense from PS5 to XIM during setup.
2. A PS5 reboot may be needed if Remote Play is laggy or unresponsive. It's rock-solid with no noticeable lag over gigabit ethernet.
3. There will always be more lag in Remote Play over Wifi, unless you have gigabit Wifi 6 and minimal wireless interference.
4. Don't use Remote Play over the internet for online MP games, connect locally to PS5 in Remote Play. The app will indicate a nearby connection when Remote Play connects to the PS5 on the local network.
5. Not tested yet on PS4, but the process should be similar and needs a DS4 V2.
6. DualSense not tested on XIM 4, but a DS4 V2 works.
7. If your XIM APEX is set to 500 or 1000Hz Response Rate, you may experience USB desync (flashing purple LED) when using a DualSense controller and controls will become unresponsive. Install https://github.com/LordOfMice/hidusbf on PC and force the DualSense polling rate to 1000Hz to resolve.

Would you happen to have the Pi method I've seen referenced here.
I have a couple laying around from various projects and I'd like to do that with my Pi 4

Will this be capped at 60fps? Same as using the PS4 version  of the game or will it be better this way?

Downloading Siege PS5 version now to confirm. When using Remote Play, the PS5 is still running the game natively on the console, so it should remain 120FPS.

Only the video feed in Remote Play (which isn't being used) is subject to the Resolution settings. I played numerous 4K 60FPS games on my PS5's screen while Remote Play was set to 360p.

120FPS confirmed.

It's 60FPS in the menus (set by the game), but 120FPS in-game (actually 140FPS or so without V-Sync).

is it necessary to use Dual Sense V2 or can I use my Third-Party Controller "PS4 Nacon Compat Controller"?
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play
Post by: antithesis on 01:38 AM - 09/08/21
I think a DS4 V2 is required for Remote Play. But try your Nacon Compact to see if it works.

I’ll do the same with my Nacon and Hori Mini.

Confirmed - a DS4 V2 is required. DS4 V1, Hori Mini and Nacon Compact do NOT work.

XIM needs to be recognised as a PC or Mac-compatible DS4 V2 controller to work with Remote Play.

DualSense controller also works via Remote Play when connected to XIM APEX. I tried a DualSense controller on Mac and it didn't work.

i just tested the remote play, and WOW i was impressed. i couldnt notice any lag or delay.
however my setup was different from yours.

1. i installed the ps5 remote play on my win10 pc. and i also pugged in my xim and the hub to the pc.
2. the hub was conncted with a kb and mouse and DUAL SENSE ps5 controller!
3. ps5 remote i changed the setting video setting to low. and i clicked search for ps5.
4. i enteret my psn info. and it started searching. and it connected.
5. both my pc and ps5 are wired on the same apple router next to each other.

i started cod cw ps5 version. everything works. i played 1 match online. and i was ownning. it really felt like local play. i was really impressed.

so in conclusion:
1. i didnt have to go through the link device
2. DUAL SENSE ps5 controller works conncted to the xim usb hub
3. my mini hori pad didnt work connected to the xim usb hub

How can do it?

I saw your post on Facebook sonic and just tested to confirm. I'm on Mac most of the time, so didn't think to try a DualSense on XIM as it's not compatible with macOS yet.

Sure enough, you were right - a DualSense controller works for Remote Play on PC! Thanks for testing, guide updated :)

This is huge as no PS4 controllers are needed and Remote Play is unlikely to be able to block XIM by removing DS4 support.

A DS4 V2 is needed on Mac, but that's small potatoes given most peeps interested in this will have a PC.

I'm checking for timeouts now by letting the DualSense idle on XIM, but so far, so good.

Unplug XIM from PS5. Plug it into a PC USB 2.0 port (3.0 might also work).
Follow the guide.

good job buddy!!

i read somewhere that there is another 3rd party software for remote play which has less delay? i think someone wrote as a comment on xim central ps remote play video
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play with a DualSense
Post by: antithesis on 03:42 AM - 09/08/21
Yes there is. Let's not talk about that yet as some people have connection issues with it.

Also, no timeouts. DualSense is a winner...on PC at least :) A DS4 V2 is needed on Mac or PS4.

Testing the DualSense connected to APEX in Astro's Playground showed that Haptics aren't working (APEX issue, works in Remote Play), Trigger Effects are working (a bit stiffer on APEX), Touchpad is perfect, Motion Control works (a bit wobbly due to Remote Play) and the DualSense mic doesn't work (due to Remote Play).

So we have DualSense working on XIM APEX, with Trigger Effects, Touchpad & Motion Control, via Remote Play on PC :oof: From what I hear, that's not possible with the 3rd party software workaround. More testing required.

I followed your steps (with PS5 Dual Sense Controller), after remote connection is active and then when I connect my APEX to the PC the power of my dual sense shuts down, when I activate it again my remote access cuts of the connection to my PS5. what do I wrong?

Are you using any additional devices chained to the XIM that could cause a powerdraw issue? Such as a T2?

Also worth it to mention this will work with a XIM4 too, you dont have to use a XIM Apex to play PS5 games :).

Try the controller in another slot. Also make sure the USB cable supports data or sync.

Do you have the XIM APEX beta firmware installed? Itís not known if itís a factor, but mine has beta firmware. Iíll test this today.

Sounds like a power issue. Try with just the DualSense controller connected direct to XIM APEX. No USB hub.

If you can get that working, you'll know it's something to do with your keyboard or mouse.

Do you have the beta XIM APEX firmware installed? I don't know if it makes any difference, but worth mentioning.

Hi all,
Tried everything. When I connect the duelsense to the xim and plug it into PC nothing is happening. But if I plug duelsense directly in I can control the ps5 over remote play.

I have updated to the latest Beta firmware (which I was already on but rolled back and still didn't work) .

Am I missing something. Duel sense is plugged into xim slot 3. Logitech g502 into slot 1 and ps3 nav into slot 2.

Help please.

So glad this was posted (with a video as well!), I'll def go this route as I didn't want to have to purchase the PS4 version.

Does the quality of my pc matter? Can I just use any windows 10 laptop I have lying around?

Also, does the Gigabit ethernet network switch hub need to be cloud managed or unmanaged?

Cables recommended? (specific ones)

I think its power issue this also was happening to mine but i tried multiple times to plug and unplug the xim from my pc then after couple of tries usually works. this happens almost every time i turn on my pc but its so easy to fix just try couple of times.

Your PC should be good enough if it's running Win 10. It's only used as passthrough for input from XIM APEX to PS5. The Remote Play window can be minimised during use, so PC resources should be minimal, regardless of specs.

Network configuration is dealer's choice. A network switch doesn't have any management at all (they're plug-and-play), it's similar to a USB hub. I use a bunch of network switches around the house connected via in-wall cabling to a central router, which then connects to the modem. But if your gaming setup is close to the modem, just bang the PC & PS5 network cables into the 4-port router at the rear of the modem.

Cables just need to be Cat5E or better for gigabit network compatibility.

Hello guys, thanks for this and it works brilliantly. I donít feel much input lag

However, I have an issue where mid game, my aim starts to go up and I lose responsiveness. Then I looked over at my remote play stream on the laptop, and I see that it was frozen.  This happened intermittently between two matches.

Iíve kept frame rate high and resolution 360p. Iíve also hard wired both the console and the laptop to the same network

My download speed is 250 Mbps and same for upload

Is there anything that is causing it to randomly disconnect or freeze ?

OBsIV measured roundtrip ping for input from a wired PS5 to a wired PC at less than 1ms over Remote Play. If youíre getting lag, youíre doing it wrong. At most, when configured over ethernet, Remote Play adds 1ms of input lag.

Its more likely that because of the game being a beta the remote access is not fully developed yet.

You don't look at the tool for gaming, you continue to look at your screen connect to your PS5. So, you should keep it on 360p to reduce bandwidth.

Just found the remote play topic now, already created another one, but anyway, I'll just post it here again in case it wasn't already known:
The new Call of Duty: Vanguard beta can also no longer be played using the Remote Play trick. If you play the game via Remote Play, you can use all the buttons in the menus - but as soon as you start a game on a map normally, you can no longer use certain buttons:
So far I've noticed it with L1, R1, L2, R2, L3 and R3.

Unfortunately, with Remote Play, it is also no longer possible to play the latest version of Call of Duty in the PS5 version.

have now tested a little but it's not much fun.  as soon as a lag comes from the internet or from the server of the FPS game, the whole thing is pointless.  It's a nice little part to play with (test play) but not suitable for the future.

I agree, Remote Play is not the best long-term solution. But it does allow us to play DualSense-locked games now rather than waiting 6 months for something more permanent.

If you really care about using a XIM to its maximum potential, get a Series X.

its not a solution to change the platform we need real update or new adaptor ASAP
if its impossible just be honest with the usears to find another team or another way to connect MK to ps5
at this way xim is exlusive to XBOX

Keep in mind that Vanguard has just entered beta, so may not have full Remote Play support yet. All other PS5 games have it, so it's likely a requirement, just as PS4 specialty controller support was required for PS5 launch titles.

It could be a powerdraw issue, try it with anything else not attached to the XIM to see if it still shuts down.
Other than that follow the recommended steps from Headhunter to get the DualSense running, such as 250hz and DS4Windows.

You mean your ping to the server? Please try a different game to check if its also the case there, the thing is that Respawn is changing the dedicated server structure this weekend and ping spikes and lags can randomly occure because of that.

Vanguard has a remote play bug at the moment where remote play presents itself as a PSVita which doesnt have these buttons. Will probably get fixed with the release of the game, other games also had this bug.

How do I get this to work with my Titan Two? I have it set to the PS5 USB output protocol but it is not working. I have the Xim in port A of the T2 and my duelsense, keyboard and mouse all in the xim hub. Can't figure out why it is not working.

Set Titan Two to USB PS4. USB PS5 registers a DualSense as a specialty PS4 controller.

Try a DualSense with this setup. If it doesn't work, use a DS4 V2.

LAN cable from your PC to your internet modem. Connect PS5 to your modem the same way. This is the simplest setup.

It doesnt, their adapter uses the speciality controller solution which is the same that the XIM Beta Firmware does. It wont work in the new CoD.

To overclock the DualSense controller to avoid XIM APEX desync (purple lights) at 500 or 1000Hz, install https://github.com/LordOfMice/hidusbf (https://github.com/LordOfMice/hidusbf)

6. DualSense not tested on XIM 4, but a DS4 V2 works.

i have question to
Caveats -

4. Don't use Remote Play over the internet for online MP games, connect locally to PS5 in Remote Play. The app will indicate a nearby connection when Remote Play connects to the PS5 on the local network.

I have my pc connected to a router (Lan 1 Fritzbox) via lan cable. Also my ps5 is connected the same way but on Lan 2 on that router. And i wanna play a fps game.
Is that the best way to connect it or can you somehow connect the pc and ps5 directly with each other. I just dont really get where your getting the internet from then.

cheers

Remote Play will attempt an internet connection before a local connection. As long as you see the local network indicator when Remote Play initiates, youíll be fine.

Nah, the Remote Play app attempts the internet first, which is arse about face. It should try LAN first. After the initial setup, it does try LAN first, but can bypass it, which is stupid.

Just watch on the Remote Play app on PC or Mac, as well as the PS5 during connection. Itíll say something like ďmaking local connectionĒ during the process. I donít recall the exact phrasing, but Iím confident it says ďlocalĒ.

Hey AntiThesis, first I wanted to say thanks. You are basically carrying this community lol, and you saved us all with the remote play.

I have many many questions to ask you, I have read nearly all your posts and they answer most of them, I just was curious if you had the time to run through my post before I go ahead and pull the trigger on all these purchases?
I have a Logitech G512 keyboard, G402 fury mouse, and an Acer 32" 165hz monitor  Free Sync. A brand new PS5 controller.

Okay, what I'm going to be purchasing.
1) 5 port gigabit Ethernet Switch:
2) Cat 6 Ethernet Cables
3) A powered USB HUB (not sure which one, does it literally have to be powered as in also plugged into electricity)
4) A USB to Ethernet adapter for my Macbook to plug into the ethernet switch

Would this following hypothetical setup even work? (hardware only, before I sort out software processes, (your guide is amazing for this though).

I plug a powerline adapter to directly to the wall outlet, this adapter is connected to the router downstairs (good latency).

I connect this powerline adapter to the ethernet switch.

Then I use two cables out of the ethernet switch, one to my PS5 and one to my Macbook via the USB to Ethernet adapter, which is connected to the powered USB hub connected to my Macbook (macbook is always on charge).

I also plug the XIM APEX hub into the powered hub, then plugging in my controller, keyboard and mouse to the XIM hub.

Do you see any potential problems with this? Anything I should sort out before hand?

What powered USB hub should I buy and do I need a PS4 controller as well?

Does my USB powered hub and ethernet to USB adapter have to be for 2.0, or it doesnt really matter?

Would any USB / Ethernet adapter work with a Macbook?

Thank you so much man, I'm sure I'll have many more questions but that can come after I buy everything and before BF2042 comes out LOL

i have flashed the xim to the beta firmware.  only thing I can think of is i don't have xim manager on my pc.  I downloaded it but i cannot connect to the xim.  I've been using the manager on my iphone for ps4

Also you need a DualShock4 version 2 controller (the one with the horizontal lightbar at the top of the touchpad).

The Hori pad doesnt work, you need one of the most recent PS4 controllers. They have a horizontal lightbar at the top of the touchpad.

It's not possible to use a DualSense on macOS, it must be a DS4 V2.

I noticed a Remote Play update has been rolled out and my DualSense didn't want to work on PC, but a DS4 V2 did on both PC & Mac, with both APEX and NEXUS.

More testing required...

In the console audio settings switch the audio output mode from remote play back to your headset.

I'm not a fan of any gaming headset. They're all crap masquerading as clay.

Buy a proper, affordable, industrial-strength, audiophile headset like Fidelio X2HR/00 cans and a ModMic or V-Moda Boom Pro. You have an audio setup that works on everything, for less than a gaming headset that'll die within a year or two.

In that case buy a cheap usb soundcard and connect it directly to the console, the headset then goes into that soundcard.

How did I not think about that earlier? Thank so you much for your help.

Just to make a precise purchase: My headset has Microsoft Dongle, which would be connected to the external sound card - right?

According to rtings.com, the USB plug for the headphones doesn't carry an audio signal and is only used for charging the battery.

It looks like you can plug a 1/8Ē audio cable into the audio jack on the headphones and the other end into the DualSense 5 controller. I don't think the headset microphone will work while doing this, and the headphones will be using the controller amp/dac instead of the headphone amp/dac.

The only way to use the headphone amp/dac appears to be
by connecting them via bluetooth or Microsoft's proprietary wifi.

Anyone able to use xim link with remote play? Can't seem to figure it out.

Works in the same way as it does without remote play. Maybe check if you have the most recent XIM Link version, and also if your XIM Link detected your XIM Apex in the interface.
If it still doesnt work verify if remote play works without XIM Link, and then if XIM Link works without remote play.

Hey guys, I've been trying to get this to work for the last 3 hours and I can't figure it out. I followed all steps, read all comments but it doesn't make sense why it's not working.

When I connect the PS5 DualSense controller directly to my computer and use remote play it works just fine, but then when connecting the XIM Apex with hub with keyboard, mouse, and DualSense nothing works, light are all on but no movement whatsoever. I haven't played in a long time but I did update the DualSense controllers today.

I sold my PS4 so can't try it with a DualShock anymore, but that used to work just fine.

I tried every possible combination of hub slots, changed all cables used 2 different DualSense controllers, settings are all correct.

When I connect the XIM directly to the PS5, using a hori controller everything works as well. I just wanna play back 4 blood.

Any ideas?

To my understanding the DualSense doesnt work through the XIM + Remote Play (latest version), you have to use a DualShock version 2 controller.

And to be sure you're using the correct controller, it is the DS4 V2. It has a lightbar going across the top part of the TouchPad.

I was getting pretty nervous, I couldnt make it work. Tried and tried different scenarios and combination untill I made it work!
I might have an idea how to trigger the combination to work.
So now I'm using dual sense + xim apex with kb and mouse + ps remote play.
Playing now cod cold War ps5. Works perfect

Thanks for the video! Which order did you plug in the cables and connect it to your computer and dual sense? I can't get this to work with the DualSense controller and remote play. I just went to the store and bought a DS4 V2 and it works instantly via Remote Play. I can finally play Back 4 Blood but had to spend $70 for a PS4 controller........

I mean the timing, not the order, I have the exact setup, is there a trick like with the hori controller to plug it in after connecting it to the computer or something?

Here you go. Basically you have to connect the xim apex/hub  with kb and mouse to the laptop. Wait till the xim has completly loaded. You can see when the xim blinks like a heart beat and the mouse profile is loaded. THEN connect the dual sense to the xim apex.
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play

THEN connect the dual sense to the xim apex.

Ok, that may be an bug on XIM APEX that we will need to look at. We never intended to support a DS5 as the connected console controller, so, it makes sense that it may have some initialization timing issues.

Post by: AlohaOlli2 on 05:42 PM - 10/25/21
Thanks for the new video and for taking the time!! The good news, I know for sure now that it's working with the DuealSense controller. I got it to work a few times. But that was out of over 100 tries. I waited for the heartbeat and tried different timings but no luck most of the time. The only way I can get it to work for sure is when I restart the ps5 without pressing any button. Then connect the xim with mouse and kb to my computer, then connect the DualSense when the heartbeat starts. Then open Remoteplay and connect to the PS5. This works every time. But when I now disconnect the Xim and try the same thing again nothing works anymore. Super weird with the DualSense.

It works every time with the PS4 V2 controller. Maybe an update or something is coming soon. Would like to see if other people are having the same issues as me.

Maybe its because in the shown video the Remote Play software already has a running connection to the PS5.
When Remote Play is already connected i can remove the controller, or even turn it off an Remote Play wont care. It would be interesting if Remote Play works with a plugged in DualSense before establishing the connection.

Thanks Sonicspinner! :)
Maybe try if it will also work with a DualSense if Remote Play doesnt show a video feed of the console yet. For other users this has been the issue, they cannot start a Remote Play connection when the DualSense is already connected to the XIM. It only works if you connect it after Remote Play is already communicating with the console.

ok back.
geezzz its a mess! lol

first of all the method with

- turn on ps5, connect DS, kb mouse with xim and plug it into the laptop and then launch the ps remote, doesnt work.
it didnt make a handshake with the Dual sense at all. I can tell if on the psn menu it says, controller connected.

anyways, then i immidiatly tried my workaround, with disconnecting the xim, and disconnecting the dual.
connect the xim to laptop , wait for the heartbeat, and then connect DS. guess what. that didnt work either.
controller was connected though, it showed battery chargin animation but no handshake with xim.

i couldnt for the life of me, make it work with any combinations. untill i tried something else.

disoconnect the xim from the pc , while the DS is still connected to the xim, reconnect the xim
and hammer the backspace button and W button. ( my backspace is assigned to behave like PS button )
then everything worked.

 - from here i couuld disconnect xim and reconnect = work
 - while everything was connected i shut down ps remote, and started it up again = work

later i removed eveything to the state where nothign worked, and i tried the backspace ( PS button ) and W method again, and it worked.

so im not sure if this is a coincidense or just the handshake between xim and psremote needs some few tried and timing.

Great findings Sonicspinner! This sounds indeed like a mess, but maybe some other XIM users can confirm your discovered workaround to also work for them. Not every PS5 owner has a DualShock version 2 at home for remote play. One thing to add here is that the DualSense pro probably doesnt advertise itself as such to the PC through the XIM. Or at least it shouldnt, as the XIM will either pretend to be a DualShock or speciality controller.

4. Don't use Remote Play over the internet for online MP games, connect locally to PS5 in Remote Play. The app will indicate a nearby connection when Remote Play connects to the PS5 on the local network.

What do you mean? Online MP Games is not recommended with remote play? Or what is mean with "connect locally"?

Have to ask, because I am faced with the decision: Call of Duty Vanguard as PS4 version or as PS5 version with remote play?
If there is even a hint of input lag, then definitely the ugly PS4 version.

My Setup:
1000 Mbit/s Downstream, 50 Mbit/s Upstream
-->
FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable
-->
NETGEAR GS305 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch
-->
Ethernet on Port 1 in Switch, Playstation 5 on Port 2, PC on Port 3.

All ethernet cables are CAT 8.1. There shouldn't be any input lag, right?

I mean don't connect Remote Play from your PC to PlayStation 5 over the internet. For example, you can connect to your PS5 at home from a work computer. Remote Play needs to connect within your home to minimise lag.

PS5 connecting to a game server on the internet is irrelevant, there'll always be wide area network (internet) lag. That has nothing to do with local area input lag from Remote Play connecting from PC to PS4.

Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play

How are you overclocking the DS5?

Purple lights are indicative of USB desync, which is likely caused by the DS5 if you're manipulating its polling rate.

Do you mean XIM APEX Response Rate? That shouldn't make any difference.

One of your connected devices (mouse, keyboard or controller), or a device XIM APEX is connected to (like a Cronus) is causing the USB desync and is disconnecting your XIM.

Hey guys,

I followed all suggested instruction, plus read all pages but still not working.

So I connected Mouse and Keyboard and DS to Xim hub, than connected it to Apex and than to my laptop (an HP Omen).
Light on Apex is green, no purple, so I think all is correct but continue to not work.

Strange thing is that DS light go on, it means is powered but if I move joystick or button nothing happens and obviously keyboard and mouse are not working.

I also tried to connect only DS to Apex than to laptop but still not working. If I connect DS directly to laptop it works.

My brother has another Apex and he has a tower computer and his Apex works. I tried with his Apex and his USB hub and still not work.

I have no more idea. I'm thinking there is something strange with my computer.
I ordered from Amazon an USB powered AC hub and hope is a power issue.

If you have other suggestions I appreciate them.

Both can work great, however when I unplug and add the xim apex and 3 way usb ( mouse port 1 and ps5 controller port 3 ) it does not work?  Any more ideas or do I need to find an old PC?
I expected it to work if it works when plugged in direct usb.

Eartrumpet is a free app that can assign audio channels to devices on Windows computers. Volume can also be set independently for each app on each device.

On Mac, SoundSource is the way to go. It's a paid app though, but it's worth the asking price.

Hi, guys.

I followed the steps and tried to plug/unplug DS and KB around 10 times. It finally works.

During the failure period, I noticed that I can give a single order (e.g. circle or cross) in the remote play and then DS is offline. <-- It seems like USB power issue.

I wonder that will a standalone 5V-DC powered USB hub can solve this issue?

Any opinion from xim team? Thanks!

DualSense hardly works on my PC (1~2 time success after plug/unpluging more than 10 times)
The powered USB hub makes no difference.

On the other hand, PS4 V2 Dualshock works everytime without powered hub.

The gaming experience is just like local control. Thanks!

So after a few beers, I got it to work. it seems to be a sync issue, at least for me. plugging in the xim first, mouse next wait a few seconds, then plug the controller seems to do the trick 90% of the time. Last I plug the Nav. I am shocked how good this plays, honestly I cant see any noticeable lag, although I am sure there is some.

Not sure if this is going to help anyone, but using the dual sense with a PC was not working as well as I expected. The pc I am using only has USB 3.0, I remember someone mentioning XIM Apex sometimes doesn't behave well with 3.0.

So I plugged the XIM Hub (3 port hub included with XIM APEX) to my PC, then I plugged XIM Apex to port 1 ( I tried all, no difference really) then from the back of  the XIM Apex, I plugged another powered USB 3.0 USB I had around, then I plugged Dual sense, mouse and NAV to the 3.0 Hub. This worked all the time, I don't even have to plug the dual sense last. I just leave everything connected. Again just my persona results...but if you are having issues using the dual sense in your PC with the XIM Apex, you may want to use or get a 2.0 USB hub.

Use a USB 2.0 port, if possible. The XIM USB hub is being used as a USB 3.0 > USB 2.0 workaround.

Ha! yeah...nice!!! man. Pictures are always so much better  ;D

Again my own personal experience. Also the only reason I used the XIM Apex hub as the bridge between my PC and  XIM apex is because I have no other 2.0 HUBs around. So in theory any 2.0 HUB should do the trick...but again there are so many variables with this remote play workaround, that anything could create issues.

I'm having the same issue:

Xim Apex works fine on pc with Dualsense, but once I load Remote Play, it just locks the controller and I have to exit/unplug to work again.

It surely isnt a Xim issue, but ... that's odd. If anyone knows a workaround. I tried with a Mayflash PS4 gamepad adapter as well and the results were the same.

I'll try to find my Madcatz Alpha Arcade stick and see if it works... but that one doesn't have analog axis so probably not useful.

Dear XIM community, this is my first post in this forum, so please bear with me ;) I'm using the XIM Apex for about two years now and am very pleased with this excellent piece of hardware!

Maybe this idea I had isn't working at all, but someone who has the respective hardware lying around might give it a try anyways: As an alternative to the Remote Play solution via PC or the new Beloader, I was think of the FireTV stick from Amazon. As far as my reseach goes, the FireTV Stick (as it is an Android device) supports installing the mobile App of PS Remote Play. Also the PS4 dual shock controller is allegedly working by cable (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgoSfXLqgg0). So it might also work with the XIM. There is even an Ethernet adapter available for the FireTV Stick. So what I was thinking is: Fire TV stick -> appropriate USB adapter or cable (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00D9SJF1U/) -> XIM. But for now I would only be interested in whether the solution FireTV stick + PS Remote Play + XIM with dual shock would actually work.

As the FireTV stick is currently offered for a reduced price on Amazon Germany, it would be only half the price than what is currently charged for the Beloader device.

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions  :)

Iíll try this. Od1n, which Android apps do you suggest I test?
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play
Post by: Howling Mad Murdock on 02:41 AM - 11/27/21
Thank you for giving this a try, antithesis! :) Actually, I have ordered the Fire TV Stick 4K (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08XW4FDJV/) and a compatible USB Hub with ethernet adapter (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07NPGVRYV/ //edit: does not seem to work) to try this out myself as well :D If it doesn't work, I still have some pretty neat hardware 8)

I would suggest trying the official PS Remote Play App. Unfortunatley, it is not directly available via the Fire TV stick. There is only a third party software that costs 4,99 € (PSPlay: Unlimited PS Remote Play (PS5/ PS4)) but this is directly available through Fire TV`s app store.

I was thinking of sideloading the official APK like described in this video here: https://youtu.be/gIEMKOOCSd4?t=278

The official App should be this here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playstation.remoteplay&hl

There are some APK downloader sites that allow you to download the latest version:
https://m.apkpure.com/de/ps-remote-play/com.playstation.remoteplay/download?from=details

I have also found these two here:
https://apkcombo.com/de/apk-downloader/?q=com.playstation.remoteplay
https://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.playstation.remoteplay

I downloaded the APK from apkpure (this should be the lastest version 4.6.0) and uploaded it to Mediafire, so it can be easily downloaded through the Fire TV sticks Downloader app (see above YouTube video: 5:20). Here it is: https://bit.ly/3nToNrQ Personally, I am always concerned about security. So you might want to do this step by yourself. //edit: Or use the short URL to apkpure: https://bit.ly/3cQISbS

I actually don't get my hopes up too high because I have read this here (esp. the last post):
https://www.android-hilfe.de/forum/amazon-fire-tv-stick.2146/fire-tv-stick-4k-bei-psn-anmelden-fuer-ps4-remote-play.931055.html#post-11961828 - In case you can't read German: https://www-android--hilfe-de.translate.goog/forum/amazon-fire-tv-stick.2146/fire-tv-stick-4k-bei-psn-anmelden-fuer-ps4-remote-play.931055.html?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=nui#post-11961828

//edit2: Maybe something also worth testing
PSPad: Mobile PS5/ PS4 Gamepad
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pspad.grill.com&hl=en

Maybe Chromecast is also a viable option someone may want to test:

Anyway, thanks for taking the time answering!

Of course anytime, I was having the same issue using dualsense. It worked and when it did it worked well. But it desynced to often and also starting it up in the beginning often took a ton of tries. Once I got my DS4 V2 (official Sony one not a knockoff) it works flawlessly every time I setup remote play.

Good luck!

Looking forward to your results! :)

Dont bother with PSPad, it runs on a forced deadzone value of 2 which results in poor micro movements. Also there is some really heavy sensitivity smoothing going on. Certainly a step down in terms of mouse movement quality, same goes for the version that costs 5Ä.
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play
Post by: antithesis on 04:57 PM - 11/27/21
Od1n, did you speak with the PSPad dev regarding the deadzone and smoothing?

I wasnít aware the official PS Remote Play app wasnít directly supported on Fire TV, which could be problematic. Thanks for all of your info Howling Mad, thatíll save me some time :)

Still, itís worth testing. If it works as a proof of concept that could lead to something else.

At worst, I can use the 4K Max anyway, so it wonít be a loss if this Remote Play setup fails. Does Fire TV work as a Chromecast device?

Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play
Post by: Od1n on 05:00 PM - 11/27/21
The programmer of PSPad said he will put the deadzone to 0 with the next update. But no words on the sensitivity smoothing which is just as much of a problem as the micro movements are with PSPad. Which kind of sucks as otherwise PSPad would be a great option as it also ignores video/audio from the remote stream.

Sideloading Sony Remote Play onto the FireStick should be the ideal solution i think.

The link Howling Mad provided implies the PS Remote Play app requires Android 10 to work with a wired DS4. Fire TV is Android 9. We shall see :)

First of all, thank you all very much for your feedback to this point. You are right, antithesis. This could indeed be the bottleneck here.

I just found out that the Fire TV Stick 4K is based on Android 7.1 and the 4K MAX is based on Android 9. To be on the "safer" side, I changed my Amazon order to the 4K MAX version now. This might change the odds that the wired solution will then be supported earlier if the stick gets a version bump. Anyways I will test this. Who knows, maybe it is working.

Good to know!

I actually managed to kinda "up" the chances of working I guess...

using HIDUSB driver overclocker https://github.com/LordOfMice/hidusbf

and changing the USB port responsible for the controller to 500hz. For some reason I managed to make it work again a few more times, so... for anyone wanting to try, maybe that's a workaround

But I guess DS4 must work right off better.

But yea once you use an official DS4 V2 it's insane how flawless everything syncs up & works perfectly each time you fire it up.

Also as an addendum, it might just be me but remote play actually feels more responsive with xim than before this whole dualsense check fiasco started.

This is just a quick heads up from the Fire TV front. Sideloading the APK (V 4.6.0) indeed worked and the connection with the PS5 could be established. However, the USB Hub I ordered is not working with the Fire TV stick (neither ethernet nor USB devices are recognized). Therefore, I could only verify what I assumed already: Although the DS V2 can be paired with the Fire TV Stick via Bluetooth (and browsing the Fire TV stick menu works fine), the Dual Shock is not recognized by the PS Remote App:
Quote
Wireless controller cannot be used. Your device does not support this wireless controller. Therefore, you cannot use it with remote play
I am going to test a different USB Hub together with an OTG cable in the coming days. I still want to know wether the App refuses to recognize the controller even when it is wired to the stick. :P

No, I did not try the official Ethernet adapter. I ordered this one here (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07NPGVRYV) which claimed that it would work with the Fire TV stick.

As far as I understand you can't connect any USB devices when using the official adapter. // edit: Or at least you also need an OTG cable for this as well.

This won't work for me.
If I follow this, the Controller won't get a connection via remote play.

Only if I reset Xim Apex to factory settings before I connect it to my PC I will get a stable connection via remote play.

This is realy annoying because I have to create and configure all configs again.
Title: Re: How to play all PS5 games over Remote Play

You definitely don't need to perform a factory reset.

Figure out when to connect the controller in your setup. If you're using a DualSense it may need to be connected last. Or you may need to use a USB 2.0 port on your PC. The simplest solution is to use a DualShock 4 V2, if you have one.

After some extensive testing here are my results Ö

The official PS Remote Play App using a wired Dual Shock V2 controller didnít work either. It gave me the exact same error, I posted above.

However, the Fire TV Stick (FTVS) and Chiaki + Dual Shock V2 worked surprisingly well with the XIM. Actually, I donít know how or what tools you need to measure the input lag precisely. At least in my subjective opinion there is no noticeable lag at all. PS5 and FTVS are both connected to the router via Ethernet.

Now for the downside: The Share, Options, PS, and Touchpad button are not working correctly. When pressing the PS button, you are being thrown to the FTVSs main menu. The Share button leads you back to Chiakiīs settings. And the Options and Touchpad buttons are doing nothing at all. Iím wondering whether these buttons can be remapped somehow. I found this thread where people seem to have similar issues with some buttons: https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki/issues/169.

Even the author of Chiaki states:
Quote
The following features however are yet to be implemented:
Touchpad support (Triggering the Touchpad Button is currently possible from the keyboard though)
https://reposhub.com/cpp/miscellaneous/thestr4ng3r-chiaki.html

Just in case anyone else wants to give it a shot, here is my current setup: I used this Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K MAX (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08MT4MY9J/), this USB Hub (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00LLUEJFU/) and this OTG cable (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00EJP5XR2/).

For the installation process I sideloaded Chiaki (current version is V 2.1.1) like described in this YouTube video (https://youtu.be/gIEMKOOCSd4?t=278).

I downloaded Chiaki from its original source:

Chiaki - Open Source PlayStation Remote Play (metallic)
https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/
https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/refs/download/v2.1.1/Chiaki-v2.1.1-Android.apk
Here is a shortened URL for easily putting it in the FTVSs Downloader App: https://bit.ly/3Ed5Ypi

The script for getting your Account ID: https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/blob/master/scripts/psn-account-id.py (File --> Save As). As Iím on a Windows machine, I downloaded the ďWindows installer (64-bit)Ē version of Python:
https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-3100/

After registering the console with Chiaka (entering the account ID and linking the device to the PS5) you are good to go. Just in terms of saving bandwidth, I set the resolution for the stream in Chiaki to 360p.

Adding to my previous post: I would assume that rooting the FTVS to add a custom keylayout for the DS V2 might fix the issue with the 4 buttons. Unfortunately, it seems that only older FTVSs are currently rootable AFAIK. So I guess I am done with my testing for now. Maybe in the future Amazon releases an updated Fire OS with Android 10 or higher. IMO Android 12 (that provides native DualSense support) is just wishful thinking as Amazon "usually" skips one Android version for a higher Fire OS version.

https://developer.amazon.com/de/docs/fire-tv/fire-os-overview.html

In the meantime I am curious testing the very promising Pi method from apex_vip if he accepts me as a tester ;-) IMO buying a Beloader device is just way too boring...

I have a Shield I can test too, but weíre moving into the range of impractical for most users.

My Fire TV 4K Max arrived. By the sound of it, it may be useful for XIM
Manager, but not Remote Play. Will test it over the weekend.

Iíll fire up my Pi too, not sure what version it is, but it has ethernet.

It looks like I spoke too soon. Although the XIM flashes purple when I move my mouse, it seems to be OK in game? Iím using the PS Remote Play app from the Google Play Store on a 2016 NVIDIA Shield. XIM Apex connected directly into the shield.
I have a Shield I can test too, but weíre moving into the range of impractical for most users.

Honestly speaking, if you have one, it works great. I didnít notice any lag / latency at all. I was using the PS4 controller that came with the original PS4 Pro, itís so worn that Iím not sure which model it is. But it works! No issues with the button layout. I tried the Nacon Pro 3 and the button layout was all messed up. Thereís a paid for 3rd party PS Remote Play called PSPlay and it works great. Again, the XIM is connected directly into the Shield.

PSPlay adds a deadzone and smoothing to controller input, so itís no good for XIM. Od1n spoke with the dev and he may be removing the deadzone in an update, but the smoothing messes up XIM microaim and that may not be removed.

Iíve been trying to figure out where I can slot my Shield into my setup. This gives me the motivation to work that out as it sounds like Ethernet Remote Play works just fine :)
