Title: XIM APEX BETA [Firmware 20210223] [Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5]
Post by: OBsIV on 05:57 PM - 02/26/21
This BETA firmware enables:
● Support for Xbox Series X/S controllers on both Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles.
● Support for PlayStation 5 through a limited set of PlayStation 4 3rd party controllers.
● Support for the XIM Universal Games Database system used by all versions of Manager going forward.

■ Changes since last BETA:
Added support for XIM Universal Games Databases.

FEEDBACK: Please help us test this new support and provide feedback here (even if you are gaming on an Xbox One or PlayStation 4).

COMPATIBILITY: This firmware can be used with all versions of XIM APEX Manager back to 20180402. However, to add a Config for game designed specifically for a next-gen console, you must be on the latest Beta Manager (http://xim.tech/beta).

Xbox Series X/S Requirements
Xbox has released patches to address spontaneous shutdowns experienced by owners of the console. You may need to force your Xbox to download the update:

Go to Settings on your Xbox Series X/S, then, System and then Updates and make sure you are current.

PlayStation 5 Requirements
Unlike support for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 where you use a DS4 and DS3 respectively as your console controller on your XIM APEX, PlayStation 5 support requires the use of specific 3rd party PlayStation 4 controllers (not a DS5, DS4, or DS3 controller).

Most PS4 3rd party controller should work, however, the following controllers have been tested and known to work (remember to plug into port "..." on your hub):

@play Wired Compact
Horipad 4 FPS
Horipad FPS Plus
Hori Fighting Commander
Hori Mini Gamepad (*)
Mad Catz SFV Arcade Fightstick Alpha
Mad Catz TE2
Nacon Pro Revolution V1/2/3
Nacon Compact Controller (**)
Razer Raiju
Vivitar LVLUP Gaming

(*) Requires the controller be connected to your hub after your XIM has been connected to your console and initialized.
(**) Mixed working/not working reports for this controller.

If you try a different 3rd party controller, please let us know how it works so we can keep this list current. We will work to add support for non-functioning 3rd party controllers if we can.

When creating Configs for your PlayStation 5, select PlayStation 4 in Manager as the console.

If you play PS4 games on either the PS4 or PS5 then yes, you can use the DS4 controller.
Only for PS5 games this wont work. To play those you can either use the third party controller option with your XIM or Remote Play.

Got a Vivitar LVLUP Gaming controller but it seems to disconnect the xim after about 10 mins consistently. I tried letting the xim start up without it plugged in but made no difference. Also tried all ports on usb hub.

Not sure. I just got the controller today and updated to this since I was a few months out of  date anyway. I hadn't tested anything on the ps5 prior to this.

Hey,

can you go into your XIM Managers top right option and then to "about"?
Please write us both firmware versions that it lists you there, this would be very helpful.

The firmware Obsiv referred to is the following:

Manager Version: 5.00.20190719
Firmware Version: 5.00.20210223

I just ran a couple of tests with a stopwatch and it consistently stops sending inputs pretty much exactly 8min after the xim finishes initializing (breathing light) . I can see the keyboard inputs being recognized on xim manager but console stops getting them. Xim also doesn't show any sign of issues it just keeps breathing the profile color.

Hello, please is there any update like this to xim4? Man I do love my xim, my brother have the apex and until today I feel much more smooth gameplay on my xim. Besides, I have my xim over 3 years and I'm so used to play with him, that I'm to afraid to change everything, including ballistic curve and all the things..

 Please.. 😢😢

Just wanted to update you guys on the hori mini pad PS4. I no longer have to plug it in after the xim boots up. It’s now picking it up plugged in while booting every time. Don’t know if you guys intended to fix it and if I am the only one that would be weird but thank you just makes it a little less on an inconvenience.

Does it work with your PS5 when plugged into directly? Not just on the dashboard, but, in game?

The xim works with a PS5 controller connected to the xim directly are any controller works when it's plugged into the xim ONLY IF YOU USE THE TITAN TWO and there is no disconnecting if you plug a PS5 controller into the titan in port B and then plug the xim into port A  but if you do have a disconnection issue then back up you files on the titan two and the xim then factory reset both devices then reinstall the latest firmware for both if anyone has a problem feel free to ask me if I can help

Nope. After starting a ps5 game it says this controller cant be used to play ps5 games. Only got this controller because it was the cheapest I could find from the list.

Yes, cross console controller support to allow you to use an Xbox controller on a PlayStation should work for PS5.

Updated the manager on my iPhone and work just fine no bugs so far. Tested the firmware on my ps5 and work no problem at all with Hori Mini. But when i use the latest beta firmware I can’t use with cronus zen because it does not work. But the latest firmware of last year (the one that i was using before) worked just fine.

got the Nacon Compact Controller. Sometimes it works right when the PS5 starts, but sometimes I have to restart the console or I do it directly like with the Hori Mini Gamepad.

I've been having strange issues since updating the firmware. Sometimes when I start my Series X the XIM will start just fine, other times it will have a solid white light which will be fixed by unplugging and replugging the XIM, and other times it will start but won't authenticate the controller instead flashing yellow. At that point it requires a restart of the console then it works again.

I don't think it's related to this update specifically since the Xbox controller support wasn't changed. We are working on a much larger change that we hope will end any strange behavior (like this and also random console shutdowns, etc) with Series X/S consoles.

The only issue that I need to replug the usb cord of the controller into the xim when xim is already in work. I saw other people already reported about this. Can it be fixed anyhow? Actually, this is the cheapest solution on russian market... so I dont mind

Much like when you try to install any other software that isn't signed by Apple you have to right click on the executable file and click open, then you will get another option to open the file.

Installed absolutely fine here on a Mac.

Just a quick question...

Is compatibility with the DualSense 5 something that's being worked on, or will it fundamentally never be a thing?

Just wondering whether to wait for it to become compatible, or just take the plunge and buy one of the 3rd party controllers.

they are waiting for the new 3rd party controllers for ps5 cuz there is nothing to do with dualsense. Rn the only solution you can use is getting the cheapest 3rd party controller for ps4 you can find on the market.

Did you connect the controller directly to the PS5 first? did you get the prompt of "who is using this"? Just to make sure the controller works :)

Also I don't think the USB/Bluetooth setting applies to wired only controller devices.

I plugged my Hori wired controller, never had to change any settings. actually I can switch between controllers on the fly, just need to press the home button.

also are you in the latest beta FW...and lastly are you plugging in the controller to far right port (...) after the XIM Apex is fully initiated.

try some of these things if you did not already...fingers crossed for you man!!!!

Nacon Pro Revolution V 1/2/3 does not work for me. Can't get it to work after following instructions. When I launch the game, I get the message that the controller is not compatible or something...the same message when using a PS4 controller.

I also have a different usb controller that I used on my ps4 whenever my batteries died, and that one gets the consistent disconnect very 10 min or something that many others have.

Games specifically for e.g. PS5 like Demon Souls needs the beta manager, but a PS4/PS5 game with separate binaries, like Destiny2, for each platform does not? Correct?

Yes the controller works fine when just plugged into the PS5 by itself. As soon as I hook it up to the apex the nacon compact controller won't even turn on and to make things weirder I get a headphones symbol on the top corner of my PS5 thinking I connected headphones when I dont have headphones connected at all. Very frustrating.

Last thing if anyone has run into this issue, the PS5 and PS4 think the Nacon Compact Controller is a usb headset when it is connected to the Xim Apex. When it is just plugged in by itself it works perfectly. As soon as you plug it into the Xim Apex, the Playstation consoles think its a USB headset and not a controller, hence the controller wont even start when trying to activate. Has anyone run into this issue thanks again. My last ditch effort trying to have some success.

Last thing if anyone has run into this issue, the PS5 and PS4 think the Nacon Compact Controller is a usb headset when it is connected to the Xim Apex. @GODFATHER looking at some of the older posts here, I noticed that it was mentioned the Nacon Compact Controller, was not working (odd that is in the working list)...sorry man...can you return it and get another one? get the one I have, seems to work great...

Hmm, no, we didn't change anything there. :) Maybe someone else with the Mini can confirm as well.
For me the Hori Mini Pad is not working. I still have to replug it to Apex like before.
Same here. Hori Mini Pad still requires powering Apex, and then plugging in Hori. Still minor inconvenience, works great.

It's obvious that this controller is working great for some people and not for others. I think in the list of compatible controllers there should be an asterisk next to the Nacon Compact saying there have been conflicting reports on this controller so the person knows what he/she is getting into before purchasing it assuming it is 100% compatible.

Actually I did exactly what you said , and neither Nacon worked and I have downloaded the latest firmware again on both controllers and it did not work.I went through the steps multiple times too making sure I was doing it right and it still didn't work.

And I even took it a step further, I went to a friends house who has the PS5 to see if it would work on his and it didn't. I actually returned the Nacon to Amazon for a second time yesterday because it was obvious there would be no success.

And the reason why I said some have success and others don't because it would be disrespectful calling out others on this board saying it doesn't work for me so as a conclusion the Nacon compact controller isn't compatible with the PS5 and xim apex. So I stand by statement, it works for some and not others. Why ? I have no clue. But I'm done with the Nacon, after trying with 2 Im convinced it doesn't work.

Someone also mentioned the Vivitar LVLUP Gaming controller not working properly for use in PS5 games and I can also confirm the same thing. I assume the first report of it working was in error. It functions exactly the same as attempting to use a Brook Wingman XE (converting a xbox controller to ps4). It will work for 8 minutes before ceasing to respond. Considering brook doesn't have a working ps5 support for any of their products and the Vivitar is unlicensed I don't think it actually works.

Hello,
I just bought a XIM APEX, and it work perfectly fine on PS5 with a DS4 controller on ps4 games. Actually, îm just playing Warzone and Apex legend, 2 ps4 games.

I try to lauch the XIm apex with my DS5, and it is not working.
I saw the firmware is a beta, and ps5 haven’t 3rd party controller yet, but i need to know something.
Will it work in the future on PS5 games, with the DS5? I dont want to buy another controller just to use the xim apex.

I saw it is usb 3.0, and the xim is just using USB 2.0.

In few week, Warzone ll be compatible on Ps5, with fov and 120fps, and i would like to use the xim on it.
Do you have so news about that? Will it be compatible with ps5/DS5/PS5 games or we will have to buy a new XIM??

The price of the product is ok, but it is not cheap we know that and i just bought it few days ago. If i have to buy a new one in few weeks it ll be a problem for me.

Can you let me know please?
Thanks to all!

Hey,

here is a short summary of what Obsiv mentioned in other topics in regard to your questions:
- The DualSense controller doesnt work with the XIM at the moment
- the new XIM wont be a mouse and keyboard adapter, XIM Apex will continue to fill that purpose
- DualSense support development has been halted for now as more information has to be gathered
- said information might come with the first licensed third party PS5 controllers (may take months before those arrive though)
- third party "specialization" controllers allow you to use your XIM in PS5 games in the meantime with no downsides

So basically I've no reason to get an Apex, if my Xim4 can play PS4 games on the PS5 till another developer I'll just do that, if the next Xim isn't a kb/m adapter they'll tuen full attention to that.

Razer Raiju
Vivitar LVLUP Gaming

(*) Requires the controller be connected to your hub after your XIM has been connected to your console and initialized.

If you try a different 3rd party controller, please let us know how it works so we can keep this list current. We will work to add support for non-functioning 3rd party controllers if we can.

When creating Configs for your PlayStation 5, select PlayStation 4 in Manager as the console.

Hi.

I can also confirm that the nacon ps4 compact controller work with Xim Apex. I used it the past month or so playing Destiny 2 (ps5 edition).

That being said I do have a issue with my Sony nav. Since I first updated to, earlier version of the new beta firmware for support for xim apex on ps5, I had issue where my Sony nav would stop working time to time. I had to plug xim apex out and back in. I ended up always trying to get it work in wireless mode, which worked fine but sometimes I just couldn't get it into wireless mode. I have never had this issue before and I am been using Sony nav with Xim apex since it came out.

Just now I updated the firmware of the xim apex to 20210223, and now when I plug in xim apex, whith Sony nav already plugged into it, the xim apex start blinking red and yellow. If I plug in xim apex without Sony nav, everything is fine, but as soon I plug in Sony nav to xim apex starts blinking red and yellow. I also get the following message in the manager: "Power Fault, The devices plugged into your XIM APEX are consuming too much power and all were shut down. Please diable lights and ensure devices are charged and restart your XIM APEX."

If I plug in Xim Apec with only Sony plugged into it, I still get red and yellow blinking. I was able to partially use my Sony Nav before this update, but now its fully dead.

I also tried to replace sony nav with my Ducky One 2 mini keyboard, but Xim Apex doesnt recognize it as a device.

Just reporting in the 3rd party controllers that worked for CoD Cold War on PS5:
- Scuf Vantage 2 (PS4)
- HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai (PS4)
- HORI FlightStick (PS4)

What didn't work:
- Astro C40TR

Only issue is that I have to create/use a CoD MW 2019 profile, as creating a new CoD Cold War profile crashes the latest beta manager app.

I also have some problems with the Nacon Compact Controller. Has to connect it after the Xim Apex has started up and then it sometimes happens that the mouse runs a bit jerkily. Then the PS5 has to restart once, then it usually works. It's not the perfect solution in the long run.

Excuse my English. Google Translator :)

Maybe it should be added to the list that the controller does not work 100% for all of them.

Somehow it seems different. For some, the Nacon Compact Controller seems to work without problems and for others it does not. As I said, I always plug mine into the Xim Apex as soon as it boots up, because otherwise I sometimes have the problem that the Xim Apex does not recognize the controller and the controller does not switch on. The apex then lights up in white and the controller is off.

I can't say what the Nacon Pro Revolution V1 / 2/3 looks like.

Does it work with prior builds? If not, can you see if you can enter "BIOS mode" on your keyboard (Corsair keyboards have this feature because their keyboards tend to be non-standard).

FYI before anyone starts giving suggestions or solutions: I am using update to date firmware and apex manager iOS app, set my primary connection method as wired on console, and a verified 3rd party controller.

I am having issues with keeping a consistent connection of my controllers that I use with the XIM Apex. I am currently playing on Playstation 5 and I use a Nacon Wired Compact PS4 Controller as my 3rd party controller. I have two main controllers that I use for gaming: a SCUF Infinity Pro (basically a DualShock 4 with paddles) and an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Here are the issues I currently have when I use the Console Controller Crossover configuration.

For the SCUF Infinity Pro:
I can successfully make a wired connection, however this will cause some kind of artificial input on the right thumbstick. And that results in the output staying stuck in a rotation (basically all I can see is my character continuously spinning clockwise. This problem goes away if I change to a wireless connection. I've tried adjusting the deadzones and sensitivity, but it seems like using a wired connection is no longer a feasible option and I have to go wireless.

For the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2:
The first time I connected this to my PS5, I followed all of the required steps (plug 3rd party controller in port 3, wait for the 3 flashing green lights in XIM, use Console Controller Crossover with the PS4 profile) and this worked until I swapped to a wireless connection. Upon switching to wireless, it appears that I can't go back to wired connection because the XIM Apex isn't able to detect the Xbox controller, however the Apex manager app shows that its connected along side the 3rd party controller. I press all the buttons on my xbox controller, but no input is detected. Now I have to basically delete my configs, reset the xbox controller and repeat all the steps as if I am making the wired connection for the very first time.

I did notice that the Console controller crossover configuration doesn't allow you to re-map the Guide button on the xbox controller with the actual guide button. By default the mapping shows it as blank, basically that means if you press the guide button nothing will happen. And I think is why the controller won't be detected if you switch from going wireless to wired. I keep pressing the guide button, the controller is obviously turned on, but hasn't established a connection with the XIM Apex nor the console.

For the SCUF Infinity Pro, all of the buttons are able to be remapped, except the share button (take screenshot/save clips). Again, by default, this is left as blank so I tried remapping the share button with the actual button, but nothing happens, Apex manager just shows "listening" and no input is detected when pressing the share button. This is inconvenient because if want to take a screenshot, I have to put down my Scuf and grab the 3rd party controller and use the share button on that which does work.

I am sorry for the long post, but I feel like these issues might be common among other people. I paid $125 for this device, with the expectation that I would be getting somewhat of a polished product with minimal issues. However I am forced to come up with my own solutions that are time consuming and inconvenient.

I'm sorry you are having issues and I understand your frustration. Can you tell us if these issues happen when not on PS5 (such as on PS4 or Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S)? It would help to know this since PS5 support is a preview and it's something that isn't officially supported.

All I see people on here mention is the hori mini and I wanted something that I didn't need to worry about special steps to get it working. Just wanted to let people know who might be in the same boat that the Hori FPS plus works perfectly.
I just keep everything plugged in on my xim apex and everything functions as it is supposed to when I plug into my ps5.

Scuf Vantage 2 worked for you? And this was playing the PS5 version of Cold War?

Yes, I can 100% confirm that plugging the Scuf Vantage 2 (discontinued) into the '...' port of the XIM Apex works for playing the PS5 version of CoD Cold War (I've been using for the past 2 weeks) which is great because whenever I attempted to use that controller plugged or paired with the PS5 it would ask for a DualSense instead.
(the other HORI controllers mentioned also worked, but plugging in an arcade stick / flight stick makes for a weird/messy setup lol)

XIM Apex the gift that keeps on giving ;)

huh that’s weird, for mine my XIM flashes purple lights, and it has major out of sync movements above 125hz. What polling rate do you play at and is your scuf the wireless or wired version? are you using the scuf vantage for mouse and keyboard authentication or to play with the controller on PS5 games?

I made a thread about this awhile ago but I just want to confirm for the latest beta firmware that the Qanba Obsidian and Pearl arcade sticks work just fine to authenticate the Apex on PS5 and use it for PS5-native games. I’m using the latest beta Manager on iOS, Logitech G Pro wireless mouse, and PS Nav in wireless mode.

I don’t need to change the Communication Method to “Use USB cable” in my PS5 controller settings but I did need to boot up the Apex with the Nav disconnected the first time. Then I plugged the Nav into port “.” on the Apex hub, waited a second, and unplugged it. Now the Nav works in wireless mode if power it on after the PS5 and Apex boot up. Haven’t needed to reconnect the Nav to the hub via USB again since the initial pairing.

The headphone jack on the Qanba doesn’t output audio but it does mute the audio on my TV when I plug in headphones so maybe I can get it working with some fiddling and power cycling. However, I found that I can just turn on my DualSense, sign it in as a guest, and then use the headphone jack on it for audio when I don’t feel like charging my A50s or PS Gold wireless headset.

Also, quick tip: most wall chargers don’t recognize the PS Nav but if you have a Nintendo Switch then the USB ports on the side of the Switch dock will charge a Nav controller, even while the Switch is in sleep mode.

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with the PS5 compatibility...
I updated my Xim APEX with the last firmware available on this topic, I put my 3rd party controller "Razer Raiju Ultimate" in the "..." slot of the APEX and it doesn't work in games.
The PS5 recognized it, I can use my keyboard to navigate into the console menu but as soon as I launch a PS5 game, Outriders in that case, my screen show the message "You can't play PS5 games with a DUALSHOCK 4 controller"...

Any ideas ?

EDIT : My stupid mistake... don't forget to put your controller on USB mode for it to work ;D

The controller may need a firmware update, be sure to have XIM disconnected while doing this.

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/controller/update-xbox-wireless-controller

It's good that you have a working X1 controller to compare to. Testing the XS controller with another USB C data cable may help. If these two suggestions do not help then it would be a good idea to verify the controller is capable of talking to another device in wired mode.

This can be checked in a PC game or it's easy to check using just Windows.

To do this connect your controller to your PC. Wait a few moments for Windows to install drivers and prepare the device. Once finished press the Windows key and type 'set up usb game controllers' and continue to this selection.

Select the controller then click properties.

If you've made it this far the controller actions will be shown in this window. Pressing buttons and moving the analog sticks will be visible as shown in this picture.

Is there a bug with this beta regarding the flashing lights? I noticed on the regular firmware, 'turn off flashing light' notifications for exceeding turn speed works, however, on this beta version, that function appears to not be working anymore.

Scuf Vantage 2 MW (wireless edition) toggled to wired mode and plugged in the 3rd port of the xim apex. I use it for both, play PS5 version of games that would otherwise prompt for a DualSense and also to authenticate a wireless kb and mouse at 3000dpi or lower and mouse sensitivity in the beta manager at 15~20 (anything above that dpi and sensitivity and it started to get a bit jumpy), kept the standard 125hz polling rate and haven't tried upping the polling rate as everything seemed smooth 'enough'.
I thought the flashing purple lights meant that you're hitting the maximum turn speed allowed in game which could explain the out of sync / disregard for any additional inputs above the limit.
Hope this helps!

Ive read that it only supports with 3rd party device etc, so i bougth this. But it still doesnt seem to work
but that might be becuse its only a firmware out there for xim apex?
Is this true? So my xim4 is just trash atm?
This has prob. already been answered so sorry if its repeated question.

I've tested out the Beta firmware with following setup on my PS5:

Hori Real Arcade Pro. V Hayabusa Fight Stick (PS4/PS3/PC)
Logitech G903 Hero Lightspeed mouse
Sony Move Navigation Controller

Tested this on Hitman 3 (demo) and Maneater (full game) - both PS5 versions - and happy to report that it was successful. I completed the training mission on the former, and just played around a bit on the latter to make sure all the buttons respond as desired.

Initially, I struggled to get the setup to work until I nearly gave up. Then I saw the note about plugging devices in a certain order and deduced the following:

Don't plug in the Sony Move Navigation Controller to the Xim Apex before you plug the Xim Apex to the PS5. If you leave it plugged in like I did (because the battery is dying/dead), you will get a "device not supported" error on the PS5 when you plug in the Xim Apex. Let the Xim Apex initialize first after plugging into the PS5, and then plug in the Navigation Controller.

(On the PS4, it was OK to keep everything plugged in to the Xim Apex before plugging into the PS4's USB port.)

Keeping the Hori Fight Stick plugged in on the Xim Apex before plugging into the PS5 appears to be OK.

So glad I don't have to buy a new third-party controller!

Good luck!

Awesome thanks so you do not need the Hori mini attached as well or will the Hori Tac Pro work instead of also attaching the Hori mini?

hi. new here. trying to get m&k working with ps5 version of destiny 2. followed instructions to a T with updating firmware and manger and whatnot.
but i rolled the dice on a cheap-o 3rd party amazon controller.

i get the light sequence on the XIM but i always get red lights after. no matter the plug in order.

safe bet that i just got a crap, unsupported controller?

Welcome to the community. The 3rd party controller needs to be officially licenced for PS4, e.g Hori, Nacon, Razer, Qanba, Logitech etc. I think a list is provided in the opening post of the thread. Other controllers won't work.

The safest bet is the Nacon Compact PS4 Wired Controller, or the Hori Mini Pad for PS4. The Hori may need to be plugged in after PS5 bootup, but the Nacon can be left connected at all times.

If you have any concerns about a controller's support for PS5, post a link prior to purchase so we can confirm if it'll work or not.

can i connect DS4 and use playstation 4 settings

If you play PS4 games on either the PS4 or PS5 then yes, you can use the DS4 controller.
Only for PS5 games this wont work. To play those you can either use the third party controller option with your XIM or Remote Play.

hello, I am new here. and i've just ordered xim apex from my local online store. now just waiting for the shipment

from reading this message. does it mean that i don't need to buy those specific third party ps4 controller and connect my dualsense controller to play apex legends? (it is a ps4 game right?)

---

controllers i have at the moment: ps5 dualsense, xbox wireless controller, nintendo switch pro controller.

can i use any of these controller for ps5 to play apex legends?

I bought that controller twice and it did NOT work. I would play it safe and go with the Hori mini. It was simple with absolute zero issues.

Dear XIM team,

I’ve purchased XIM Apex on Monday, had tracking number 10mins after purchase. I was little sceptical coz I don’t like change and have been using XIM 4 for a while.
I got the delivery today, updated firmware, plugged in controller (Nacon Compact SLEH 00470), set up my key bindings, was all done within 15 mins because of clear guidance of this support forum & community. Have been playing for couple of hours now & loving every second of it.
Here to say massive thanks for making this work with PS5.

i'm a european (italian) XIM apex user and i've just received my brand new PS5. I'd like to buy the cheapest 3rd party controller that works with the PS5 and i saw on amazon the Hori Mini pad for 25€. Is it recommended? Is there any cheaper option?

Thank you in advance.

Im also EU and Hori Mini Pad was the cheapest option i found. The only con is that u need a DS4 controller to boot up the Apex then plug the Hori in every time you start up the PS5. It only takes a second i dont bother doing it. So if you own a DS4 controller then go for the Hori, works great for me

Thank you for ur reply. I still own a PS4 so i've got the DS4. I'll first try to find a used nacon compact with the correct SLEH number and if i won't succeed i'll go for the hori mini pad.

EDIT: just bought @play wired compact controller from the local GameStop (hori fighting commander wasn't available) and it works flawlessly

I read here that for the hori minipad you need to plug it in after the xim powered on, but I don't know if it's just dumb luck or something else but my minipad autenticates while staying plugged in during xim startup. it just works. Hori minipad (blue), the original apex hub did not last long so I am using an USB 2.0 hub from belkin and got the latest firmware. Could it have to do something with the hub?

I though was mention before but I don't see it on the controllers list on the first post of this thread.

Nacon should work, Make sure you've updated your XIM Apex "Firmware"

You need to update the firmware with a PC.

Hello everyone,
I apologize for my simple question however I wanted to double check before I go and purchase a official 3rd party controller.

I was initially thinking of buying a Hori Mini for my PS5, however upon researching I heard that DS4 controller must be used to turn on the PS5 then I would need to plug in the Hori Mini for authentication. Unfortunately, PS5 is my only console and I do not have any other controller avalible (besides the PS5 controller).

With that being said, I am looking to purchase Hori Fighting Commander instead but would that also require DS4 to turn on the PS5? Or can I use my PS5 controller to turn on the console? Or can I press the power button manually?

Don't get a Hori, go for a Nacon Compact Wired PS4 controller. It doesn't need to be disconnected from and reconnected to XIM APEX and costs about the same as a Hori Mini.

A DualShock 4 shouldn't be required in any case - use the power button on the console to turn it on.

Scuf is a modified DualShock 4, it’s not a licenced third-party controller. DS4 controllers don’t work in PS5 games.

You’ll need a controller listed in https://xim.tech/beta (https://xim.tech/beta) to play PS5 games. Nacon Compact Wired PS4 Controller is the best option.

I’ve factory reset my xim, used a new config, switch the ports around and nothing which is why i am resorting to the forums.

I started off using a Hori mini which worked fine but had to be connected after the XIM initialized. I switched to a Hori FPS + which initially worked like a charm. Now I'm having to unplug the FPS+ and reconnect it to get it to work. I suspect that the controller is at fault but I thought I'd see if anyone else is having trouble.
