Title: [Apex Legends] - How To: Setup your XIM for Dial Menus - Visual Guide
Post by: alanmcgregor on 12:43 AM - 02/10/19
1. Enable Expert Configuration
(https://i.imgur.com/RfHXvu8.jpg)

2. Create a new Config for Apex Legends
The official ST is not release yet. We are going to use Titan Fall 2 for this example. You can do this with any other Config ST.

3. Mapping.
Customize your buttons ( Actions Section )

We are going to use the default mapping as an example.
Use your own keys to map actions following the next instructions.

Dial Selection Methods Explained

METHOD 1. Analog Stick
(https://i.imgur.com/CkkBpug.png)
Uses Analog stick to select options on the dial menu.
TIP: Make sure the sub-config activation button allows you to keep your thumb on the stick.

METHOD 2. Mouse + Turn Assist
(https://i.imgur.com/gDAKvHw.jpg)
Select options on the dial menu by moving the mouse when the Turn Assist button is held down.

You can use a key or mouse button. Every single movement you made while holding down the Turn Assist button, is equally to a full joystick movement on that direction. Makes easier to select with the mouse.
TIP: Make sure the sub-config activation button allows you hold both: Turn Assist button and the Activation Sub-config key.

METHOD 3. WASD keys
(https://i.imgur.com/hqlnP7S.jpg)
Select options on the dial menu by using WASD keys.
TIP: Make sure the sub-config activation button allows you to press WASD keys freely. Mouse buttons are recommended.

Creating a Inventory Sub-Config with Mouse Cursor
Swipe to the Right for a New Sub-Config Page.
Check the box to Enabled. Rename as: Inventory.

NOTICE: This subconfig works TOGGLE Behavior, this means you don't need to hold the activation key. In this case when you press the Inventory button XIM manager enters to Inventory Subconfig Automatically.

Is highly recommended to have a SECONDARY KEY BIND for Options/Menu to access game settings.

Great guide, thanks for all the time and knowledge invested @alanmcgregor!

I also remap my mouse buttons to A and X (left and right mouse) makes if (for me at least) more intuitive.

Is there a limit on the number of auxillary pages ? I can't make more than 4, maybe it is the beta formware I am using ?

Close setup on inventory sub-config. I think you should check on the "smooth aim transition".

Well. Real happy I spent an hour and 20 minutes trying to create the mouse inventory one perfectly, only to come here and see I wasnít quite perfect and hadnít even began to ponder the complexities of the other ones lol.

BUT I DID MAKE BIG DISCOVERY!
You can achieve ĎSprint by Defaultí by binding the Left Stick Button (ps4/xb1) to W (or whatever your forward movement key is) very simple, nothing in comparison to this mans expertise but I was proud of myself!

Also, anyone else experiment with the FOV option in game? 70 feels like Iím using a google cardboard on a sh**** space war simulation youtube video. currently testing out 96-100 FOV and Iím liking the results thus far, donít try 110 (max) instacancer

Thanks for the guide. Safed me a lot of time understanding the mechanics.

Advanced Tipps:
Delay (inventory config) should be at least 150 ms. If i am sprinting and i open the inventory (at 100 ms), the cursor goes to the top (instead of beeing in the middle). Its important So u can drop thinks quickly during sprinting.

U can also use the basics of the inventory config for looting. Just bind the reload Button to a secondary button on your keyboard (for example t). For the new looting config you can use this for activation. So u can reload without activate the sub config. After a few games it should be in the muscel memory (reload =R, looting = T).

For the problem only to have max. 4 sub configs....u dont have to Do one for the granates. U can switch them by just Pressing the binded Button.
Only 3 Different granates, not necessary creating a sub config for this. Use the space for looting for example.

Would be nice to have more space in the future with a new Firmware.

Bind mouse wheel up and down to your right stck for inventory cursor auxiliary. This allows you to scroll if you use in use inventory cursor auxiliary like Alan posted earlier. And for more PC like feel bind mouse click left and right to pick up and select items.

U can also use the basics of the inventory config for looting. Just bind the reload Button to a secondary button on your keyboard (for example t). For the new looting config you can use this for activation. So u can reload without activate the sub config. After a few games it should be in the muscel memory (reload =R, looting = T).

Good Idea, but how to change the config?
HIP cfg:

Reload = R
Secondary Reload = T

Aux cfg activate = T

Reload = None

Yep, that's how I use it, Left Mouse Button = Cross|A,  Right Mouse Button  = Square|X as a secondary mapping on the Inventory sub-config.

Advanced Tipps:
Delay (inventory config) should be at least 150 ms. If i am sprinting and i open the inventory (at 100 ms), the cursor goes to the top (instead of beeing in the middle). Its important So u can drop thinks quickly during sprinting.

For the new looting config you can use this for activation. So u can reload without activate the sub config. After a few games it should be in the muscel memory (reload =R, looting = T)...
You're totally right, yeah definitely I will prefer having a sub-config for looting than a one for nades.

Bind mouse wheel up and down to your right stck for inventory cursor auxiliary. This allows you to scroll if you use in use inventory cursor auxiliary like Alan posted earlier. And for more PC like feel bind mouse click left and right to pick up and select items.
That's a good idea man, I going to use it on my sub-config.
Inventory Subconfig/Movement section set:
Wheel Down = Right Stick Down,
Wheel Up = Right Stick UP.

Thank you gentlemen for sharing :)

Thanks Od1n, I though on make generic guide but... this game is quite hot and some particular tweaks are necessary but still I hope this helps to tune other games dials menus.

All these options are deliver by OBsIV wits, gave us a lot of options.

It will be nice having another page of Auxiliary, but now that I think you all get more familiar with the subject...

It will be GREAT to have a "Turn Assist Apply on Activation Key",
(https://i.imgur.com/iSHm9kW.jpg)

So we don't need to hold down the turn assist key AND the sub-config activation key, to select with the mouse.
Just hold down the activation key and move the mouse. Small change, but make a noticeable difference, save one button and it will make it less clunky.

Beside the fact that some link configs are incompatible between XIM Manager versions. On my experience when I shared the link, and someone tries to customize something, they often miss some crucial binds that make the whole thing work.

IMO is better to do it manually, so you can also choose the ST you prefer or even apply it to the official when available.

For Nav users, if you haven't already figured it out you should make the sub-configs toggle, instead of hold, otherwise you're going to be trying to hold down one of the arrow keys while moving the stick, which is pretty awkward. I changed them to toggle and it made things easy.

Thanks again for the guide!

I'm also curious as to why mouse forward is used for turn assist?
Why couldn't you use the same key that is used for the Aux profile?

For example if your using G for Ping, you can't use G for the Aux profile and use G for Turn Assist? That way all you would have to do is hold G down and it would activate the Aug profile and Turn assist? Hope this makes sense.

Thanks very much for posting this but all this is beyond me.  Iíve tried for 6-8 hours this weekend to get something as simple as usingthe config wheel but canít.  Itís frustrating as all @#$% because switching between DS4 and Xim 30 times a game in a fire fight leads to frustrating deaths.

No matter what I do when I hit the ďactivation keyĒ my look shoots straight up.

I just need to buy a PC and leave consoles for Spider-Man.

Personal preference, I have the old habit of use the top side mouse button (Mouse Button 4) as a sprint button.

When I'm at a menu or flying a ship(BFV, SWB2) and I need turn assist, my brain feels more natural use this button for "go faster" in this case, turn faster. Beside holding with the thumb is easier. Go with whatever works for you, remember the button mapping is only an example.

I'm also curious as to why mouse forward is used for turn assist?

As far I know this is not supported.

Or maybe doesn't work with the current firmware I'm using. That's why I think will be nice to have that option or the "Apply Turn Assist" on sub-config activation.

Great tutorial Alan.

Although I'm not remotely interested in playing this game (may change my mind if they add a solo mode) I appreciate all the time that you must have spent putting the guide together. It has a lot of crossover applications for other games where Aux configs are useful.

Upvote for the sticky idea, Od!n.

I have the same question. Is this possible with XIM 4? I have not played the game yet (was waiting for an ST). I have used the similar dial menu on XIM 4 for BF 5 (for squad leader to give orders) . From what i can see, there are 3 different DIAL menus (Ping, Ordnance and Inventory) used with the DIAL menu in the Apex Legends game. This makes it much more complicated to use than in BF 5. Also, it is imperative to use health/shield regeneration quickly and efficiently. I will give this a  go, but i think i might skip this game entirely. I hate these dial menus

Hi guys,

Sorry for hijacking this; I'm trying to setup alanmcgregor's aux config above but I think I'm screwing it up.

I use DS4 w/ mouse, and when I hold the aux activation button on my mouse, the left analogue stick on the DS4 still only moves my character around but not navigate the wheel like it's should.

Appreciate the help and thanks in advance.

Thanks for this Dial menu help.

Quick question about using method 1(analog stick), I have the ping button set to a mouse button, so I can see how that would work while holding the ping button down, it would activate the sub-config, to use the analog stick to make the selection.  But, I'm still using the D-pad for (up) health (right) grenades (I'm using a frag chuck controller) So how is it possibly to hold down, the up on the d-pad and use the analog stick (with one hand) to make a selection at the same time?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks

question, i setup the dials just like in the tutorial. but when i open the Health/armor dial for example, and then move my mouse while holding turn assist button, it barely does anything unless i swing my mouse completely to the other side of my mouse pad really fast and violently. do i need to raise sensitivity in the auxiliary setting?

Everyone has different preference. I usually use dial auxilaries for all my games. Not this one. I make a small circle with my mouse then it let's me easily select the item. If you struggle with this just add turn assist to your hip movement and hold it while you are holding the grenade, heal, or spot key.

What I like is using a cursor auxilary that swaps sticks/ allows mouse movement/ click for selection/ mouse wheel to scroll when I open inventory/looting. I can also use this for character selection and the menu.

I also make  a map auxilary that is similar to my cursor aux.

Post by: SleptKing on 07:25 PM - 02/11/19
Everyone has different preference. I usually use dial auxilaries for all my games. Not this one. I make a small circle with my mouse then it let's me easily select the item. If you struggle with this just add turn assist to your hip movement and hold it while you are holding the grenade, heal, or spot key.

What I like is using a cursor auxilary that swaps sticks/ allows mouse movement/ click for selection/ mouse wheel to scroll when I open inventory/looting. I can also use this for character selection and the menu.

I also make  a map auxilary that is similar to my cursor aux.

This. Drag the mouse out a little bit and use a circular motion to select, works every time. The only time it's troublesome is selecting from the ping wheel since there are more options requiring more precision.

Thanks Alan. I really enjoyed your RDR2 dial setting, also thanks to this tutorial.

But using this setting I found a small problem.

Iím using sony nav, so analog setting. But when Iím running and suddenly press the key for ping, my aim quickly moves to up top. I think itís because Iím pushing sony nav stick to front and same time I press the key for ping, so my nav input is interpreted to right stick movement.

Sure, when I completely stop and press the key for ping (or health....), then it is all OK. But this is fast-paced game. So sometimes I have to press ping button or health button when Iím moving or strafing to left-right.

So how can I solve this problem?

Can you set up similar menu for looting with left n right click? Wouldn't  it be problematic for every time you press SQUARE you would toggle into that? Any work arounds? Also, high velocity works better imo on this game

For looting you can create a SubConfig, use the mouse to move the cursor follow the directions. Your Loot Activation key should be the a secondary RELOAD bind on HIP.

So for reloading you use the primary reload bind, for looting your secondary reload bind so you enter to Loot Subconfig.

Hi!, some games incorporate a dial menu to make commands or select different items.

eg.
Red Dead Redemption 2
(https://attackofthefanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/weapon-wheel-red-dead-redemption-2.jpg)

Battlefield V
(https://cdn.attackofthefanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/battlefield-v-squad-reinforcements.jpg)

Fortnite
(http://www.pwrdown.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/EmoteWheel.jpg)

Overwatch
(https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/overwatch_gamepedia/c/cf/Communication_wheel.jpg)

The Division, and many more.

This type of "dials controls" (https://d2gg9evh47fn9z.cloudfront.net/800px_COLOURBOX1941759.jpg) are meant to make a selection using an analog-stick, not a mouse.

Using XIM Mouse translation to make the selection can be quite difficult, you need a very high sensitivity, also moving the mouse in a circular motion is recommended:

Method 1. Using an Analog stick, allows to swap to the Nav analog stick to make the selection.

Method 2. Using turn assist, this increase all your mouse movements, while the turn assist button is held down.

Method 3. Uses the WASD keys, this is useful on menus up to 8 possible slices, because WASD allows 8 directions only.

Hey, would you mind giving me your opinion on the set up that I use which uses High Velocity curve instead of classic. To me this seems to add a lot more turn cap speed, but I may be mistaken. I use this in order to be able to use lower in-game sensitivity

Settings :
4k DPI
1000 HZ
HIP .75 (Common)
ADS 1.05 (Common X/Y 1.05)

In-game
HIP 7
ADS 6
Curve: High Velocity

Or possibly you wouldn't recommend this because the setting wasn't trained for this? I am just trying to find the ideal way to get little aim assist as the turn cap doesn't allow me to play properly without it.

Creating a Ping Sub-Config
(https://i.imgur.com/HZwcqrt.jpg)

SET TO THE METHOD OF YOUR PREFERENCE
(https://i.imgur.com/GLsxWkI.jpg)

How it Works?.
Hold key G, to enter to the PING Sub-Config, in-game you will see the Ping Dial.
While holding down the key G  you can select by:
  • a) Moving Analog Stick, or
  • b) Moving the Mouse (AND holding Turn Assist button) or
  • c) Pressing the WASD keys

Creating a Inventory Sub-Config with Mouse Cursor
Swipe to the Right for a New Sub-Config Page.
Check the box to Enabled. Rename as: Inventory.

NOTICE: This subconfig works TOGGLE Behavior, this means you don't need to hold the activation key. In this case when you press the Inventory button XIM manager enters to Inventory Subconfig Automatically.

Is highly recommended to have a SECONDARY KEY BIND for Options/Menu to access game settings.

Go to the Movement section on the Right Stick assign:
UP = Wheel Up
Down = Wheel Down

Now you can scroll down or up with the mouse wheel.

as SixShooter suggested.

Bind mouse wheel up and down to your right stck for inventory cursor auxiliary. This allows you to scroll if you use in use inventory cursor auxiliary like Alan posted earlier. And for more PC like feel bind mouse click left and right to pick up and select items.

Can you walk me through that step by step in the app? I donít know how to do that

Hi everyone, great guide thanks, I can set everything up but I've come across a few teething/performance problems, I was hoping one of you fine chaps could help me out to see if I'm doing anything wrong.

1) Using mouse curser for Inventory (Setting X/A to mouse buttons method)
I have set this up however, when you use a consumable like syringe it takes you out of the menu but the sub config remains on as you can't set mouse 1 to deactivation as you might need to use mouse 1 multiple times whilst in the menu. Any work arounds?

2) I can't set this up properly for looting, it goes haywire trying to active it,is it because you have to hold X down? FYI I have it set as a secondary reload Anyone else have this problem?

3) Using W for sprint (slightly different topic)

I love this work around, but it means you can walk forward without cancelling using a consumables, shield cell etc. Anything I can do?

Thanks in advance

I must admit, i've had similar weird problems in the past, are you sure 'F' is not bound to any other action in the sub config, I always un-bind all of my buttons then just map the buttons i need, in the case of the inventory A, X and RB

not sure this will help

I have ďFĒ as inventory. You can under ďActionĒ on ďhipĒ change to ďsecondaryĒ button mapping. There you can put different secondary key-binding. I guess you already have follow the step by step guide on how to set up dial menus. Should work that way.

It worked 2 days ago but I had problems with it sometimes, I didn't try the 150 ms delay part- Then I started to do some other stuff. I tried to create 2 new configs but as soon as I check F and toggle it goes to settings menu and not inventory. I don't get it.

I tried E and C yesterday to with a new config. When I pressed E I did melee and went to inventory, when I went to C it checked the weapon thing and went to inventory. G works perfect, but I really want "F".

It sounds like it but I just deleted every Apex config I had, made a new one. Same @#$%! I don't have anything on F. WHat could it be i'm missing? I'm very new to customize xim4.

EDIT: Fixed it! Thanks! haha jeez

Haha, you're going to laugh. It's the first time I tried to customize configs. I started off with set the inventory to "F" then create a new subconfig. When I did that, the first config follows so the the subconfig was set to "F" too. But the problem is/was that I thought when I changed the inventory button on HIP, it would change everywhere but that was not the case. So yeah, double inventory which took my to settings. Sorry and thanks for your help!

How do you solve looting?

1. I have reload/looting on R. It's a problem for me in the beginning if you have loot fast on the ground then the aim will get stuck until I deactivate it. What do you recommend?

2. How do you scroll when looting? The mousewheel is not good, how do I do so I move the mouse up and down like usual when looting.

For scrolling the loot, at loot subconfig you can bind wheel down  to right joystick down and wheel up to right joystick up.

Personally i prefer W and S, is faster might not feel like a mouse navigation, but works

hmm you have a point there. but i was thinking so i like to select items with WASD(left stick cursor) like you. but i wish i could scroll up and down faster. Would there be a way to make an aux that lets me scroll up and down with scroll wheel?

It can be done. But in my experience the wheel is really unresponsive. You got to scroll like crazy in order to get it to move.

When I try the WASD method, when I hit my health menu button my aim goes all the way up if I'm moving foreward.

is there anyway to prevent or minimize this?

Thank you for your great job!

Just a small question. The curve that I see on the image for xim apex is the same for xim4? I cannot copy the code, so I wanted to make the curve by myself.

Try adding an activation Delay.

XIM APEX and XIM4 curves code are incompatible, but the curve is the same. On the XIM4 section I posted a XIM4 version of that curve.

Must be doing something wrong. When i bind my health to my movement keys with a activation key i get the health pop-up every time i try to move.....

I guess you have WASD for movement and in that case A = Left movement which will interfere with your activation key "A" for health menu.
Try binding something else for activation key, for example "Left Control" or something and see if that helps.
Don't forget to do the same in the HIP key bindings for health menu.

i haven't read this whole thread so i apologize if a similar curve has been posted already. anyway i found a curve very similar to the one i'm sharing awhile back; I have no idea who made it so i can't give props sorry D: anyway I modified it slightly. this curve makes it super easy to select a direction and lightly lock into it so you don't go flailing around the menu with the slightest move of the wrist... other curves i've tried were too unpredictable and i would end up selecting things i had not intended, but with this i'm able to fairly consistently pick a direction and stick to it.

i have no idea if this link is going to work, but here's a screencap of the curve: https://pasteboard.co/I3IR4Bz.jpg

hope it helps. let me know what you think:

X4MB:AAAAGgA0AC4AMAAwAC4AMgAwADEANgAwADQAMAA1AArGxsbGxsbGxsbHx8fHx8fHx8fI:X4MB
<<< XIM4 END PASTE <<<

edit: 12000dpi. you can increase or reduce your sensitivity to modify the strength of the "locking in" aspect

Hi guys, new user to xim apex here,

so the Apex legends ST is out, its awesome, but i still have some issues with the ease of using the selection wheels, im guessing that the visual methods have been embedded in? i've use the mouse method to select, but cant get the movement right and struggle to select during firefights, and it basically takes a while to select what i want, is there a video tutorial on how to do it properly?

thanks and much appreciated

My inventory button is Mouse Middle (Wheel click) and after setting up the Inventory subconfig with Mouse Middle as activation (set on Toggle), I can no longer open inventory menu. It just opens up setting/leave party.

Before I had the inventory subconfig set up, clicking on mouse middle would bring up inventory and holding mouse middle would open up settings menu.

Does this happen for anyone else?

Is there a way to increase the speed of the cursor to get the quick mouse looting feel? I played around with sensitivity but it doesn't increase the speed of the cursor. It feels okay right now but there are times where it feels like I have to move my mouse across my desk to get to an item. Ideally I'd lilke it to be the same speed as my in game sensitivity.

Thanks in advance!

When creating your AUX configs for health and armor / grenades, where should your sensitivity fall? the same as hip? Ive seen videos saying double the hip.

Go with the video, its a updated version. But if you are using turn-assist, it doesn't matter because turn assist overdrives XIM sensitivity.

For the Inventory navigation, well I used a slow-turning speed curve to improve mouse movement make it feel more like a PC cursor, on the video Od1n went for higher XIM sens, go and try what ever feels better for you.

So I watched the video and the only thing I don't have is the boost setting (I assume this is what will make the cursor faster?) i know you have to update the app but mine doesnt seem to have an update available.

EDIT:For IOS I wasn't aware that you have to download testflight to get the manager update since it doesnt come automatically through the app store.

Yes Please explain how to get rid of the low cursor speed for the inventory. I Tripled my sensitivity and put the boost on 500 like the video says but it's still slow going long distances with the cursor (I.E. going from one side of the screen to the other seems like it takes along time but the little movements are good.) This may just be as fast as it can go tho.

Is there a way to map health/ordinance/ping dial menu to the thumb analogue joystick on the razer orbweaver/tartarus so I can use it to move the dial while holding the key down? similar to how controllers work.

Probably, me I used key health and turn assist on the same key. It is pretty badass and are very fast.

Only thing does not work is the looting, I m very too slow...how to improve it ?

Moving the Mouse (AND holding Turn Assist button) or

That option doesnt work for me when I make a ping tab. Why is that??
