Title: Can't get the k63 to work wirelessly!
Post by: Kevje1406 on 09:45 AM - 03/21/18
Hi guys is anybody here using the k63 wireless wirelessly? If yes how did you manage to pull it off? I'm stuck for like 2 hours with it. Thank you very much

I'm using the K63 wireless and I'm not having any issues.  I'm not doing anything special.  I plug the wireless dongle into the APEX and I turn the keyboard on before plugging the APEX into the PS4.

Try unplugging / replugging the wireless dongle into the APEX with the keyboard powered on.

If that doesn't help, have you tried plugging it into the PC and make sure it works there?  Maybe the wireless dongle is not paired with the keyboard for some reason.  I did connect mine to my PC before ever plugging it into the APEX to make sure it worked and also updated the firmware.

[EDIT]  See this post on page 2 for how to downgrade your K63 Wireless to v1.02:

Just trying to save future users having to comb through (currently) 3 pages of posts.

What firmware is your K63? If it's updated to the latest version 3.07 it won't work wireless, if you don't have the latest firmware DO NOT UPDATE IT but can you make a backup or image of what firmware your running and let me know if you'll email it to me?

I've never plugged the K63 back into my PC after the post I made above on March 21st so it's still on that firmware.  It's still working great with the XIM Apex.  Once in a while I have to unplug / replug the wireless dongle into the Apex to get it to recognize the keyboard, but most of the time it works without needing to do that.

I just hooked the K63 up to my PC and ran Corsair Utility Engine and it looks like my K63 is on firmware v1.02.  It doesn't give me any way to download the image - there is only an update option.  My CUE version is ancient - it's version 2.23.40.

Here is a link(on softpedia) to the version of CUE that's installed on my PC, which was current when I first bought it:  https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/KEYBOARD-and-MOUSE/Corsair/Corsair-K63-Keyboard-Driver-Utility-2-23-40.shtml (https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/KEYBOARD-and-MOUSE/Corsair/Corsair-K63-Keyboard-Driver-Utility-2-23-40.shtml)

I don't know if firmware v1.02 is baked into that release of CUE...  In my version of CUE there is no way to select a file.  There is only an update button which checks a Corsair server for the latest version of the firmware and it will attempt to update it.  I turned off my keyboard before it could do anything though.

Also, I checked the Corsair installation folder as well as the folders it created in my user profile (both Local and Roaming) and none of them have any indication of a firmware file.  My guess is that it deletes the firmware file after it does an update.

Hello friends,
To dump the firmware is not difficult. Description of the process is on the manufacturer's website:

HOW TO PERFORM A HARD‑RESET ON A KEYBOARD.
Many issues on our keyboards can be corrected by manually reinstalling the firmware. This should be valid on any of our RGB keyboards, or the Lux and Strafe static lighting keyboards. In order to obtain the file required, we will need you to create a ticket and request the file. We would suggest attaching a photo of the sticker on the bottom of the keyboard so that we can verify the model beforehand. It's possible we may request it before sending anything, so it's better to attach it when you make the ticket.

Please follow the directions below:

Unplug your keyboard from the computer.
Locate the small pinhole underneath your keyboard. For some, this will be located near the polling rate switch by the cable. On others, it will be located underneath on the tilt legs on the bottom of the keyboard.
Using a small paperclip or push-pin, press down on the button inside the pinhole.
Plug your mouse back into the computer, while holding down the pinhole button.
Once it is plugged back in, your computer should recognize a drive called CRP_Disabled. Please open this.
Download the firmware file from the ticket. If it is compressed into a .RAR file, please extract this file to an easily found location on the computer.
Delete the file FIRMWARE.BIN from the CRP_DISABLED drive, and then place the file with ISP in its name to the CRP_Disabled drive.
Once you have performed the steps above, please unplug your keyboard and then plug it back in. The device will then return to normal. Please test to see if the issue reappears. If it does, please inform us on the ticket for further troubleshooting.

Firmware file that we need FIRMWARE.BIN

You just have to copy it.

Here is a link to the firmware taken from my K63 Wireless.  It should be v1.02 as that is what CUE is showing as my current version.

I don't have the ability to attach the file to this post, so maybe a mod could attach it as that File Dropper link will expire at some point.

[Edit]  The File Dropper link is dead.  Go to this post for the link to the firmware and specific version of CUE needed to downgrade the K63 Wireless:  https://community.xim.tech/index.php?topic=63240.msg737793#msg737793

It doesnt work for me either.

Tried using the metod with pin and hard replace of the firmware, doesnt work. Its like the keyboard is downgraded to 1.02 and the dongle still is on 3.07.

What did i do wrong? Any suggestions?

all in order: 1. deleted the latest version of icue. 2. copied firmware 1.02 onto the keyboard using a pin. 3. installed cue 2.24.50 and launched the program as an administrator 4. disconnected the internet. 5. I flashed the keyboard file 1.02 through the cue. 6. deleted the dongle from the device manager on the computer. 7. installed the latest version of icue 8. connected the keyboard to the dongle using icue. It is possible that some of these actions were superfluous, but it worked for me.

I wonder if OBsIV could help by having one of you on the 3.07 firmware run the USB diagnostic that they use to troubleshoot USB issues.  Ideally users wouldn't have to try to downgrade the firmware on their keyboard.  Also, users who are buying the keyboard now are going to have the current firmware.

Seems like a bummer to have to downgrade the firmware.  I was having other issues and as a result I upgraded all my firmware on my k63 and my logitech G900 mouse.  Turns out my issue was something else completely but now I am in the same boat where I have to use my keyboard through the USB cable.  You would think there would be a XIM firmware update that would fix this soon since this is a pretty common keyboard, especially the lapboard setup which is made for the XIM.

Does anybody out there have the v1.02 firmware that they can link for download again.  The previous link is dead and the file seems to be hard to come by online.  Also reading some other posts Corsair isnt sending the downgraded firmware out anymore so some people have been returning their keyboards and re purchasing on Amazon to get one with an older firmware.

I already created a ticket with Corsair, I'm interested to see what they say.  I hope a XIM firmware update resolves this in the future.  Anyways, ill go back in the thread and go through the steps in rolling everything back.

Hi guys!

Did you ever solve the problem with that the firmware reverts to 3.07 on the USB-dongle?

@Alexko79 - What kind of magic did you perform to get it to work? I have been trying for hours with all kinds of different solutions. I cant seem to get cue 2.24.50 installed since the download is not a setup file. Am I missing something here? Is that version vital? Because I managed to flash the keyboard in the latest version of iCue as well.

Any and all details you can share would be most helpful. :)

Thanks!

I'm going to give my firmware rollback a go in the next few days.  I have all the files and I should be good to go.  The step by step instructions seem a tad vague so if I run into issues I might ask you step by step what you did.  The instructions seem to get hazy around the part where your supposed to delete your dongle from the hardware manager.

I did'nt need to do the part where the dongle was deleted from the device manager.

Below I have added comments to Alexko97's recipe with what I did. All credits to him for figuring out how to do this. I just tweaked it a bit to work for me.

1. Delete the latest version of iCue.
2. Copy firmware 1.02 onto the keyboard using a pin.
3. Install Cue 2.24.50 and launch the program as an administrator. (I had to change the file extension on the download to .msi)
4. Disconnect the internet. (This step might be unnecessary but I did it and it worked)
5. Flash the keyboard file 1.02 through Cue. (For me this didn't work the first few times and I actually turned the wifi on again and updated it without using the downloaded 1.02 firmware. Just the regular update. Not sure if you need to do this in this order but it was what worked for me)
6. Delete the dongle from the device manager on the computer. (this I didn't have to do)
7. Install the latest version of iCue. (I skipped step 7 cause I didn't dare to fiddle anymore once I saw it was downgraded to 1.02)
8. Connect the keyboard to the dongle using iCue. (I used the 2.24 Cue for this)

Feel free to ask anything you want. Happy to help if I can!

Once again, wouldn't have managed this without Alexko79. All credits to him!

I tried for hours in vain and it just does not work.
I used CUE 2.24.50 and firmware 1.02 but the dongle stays at 3.07.
Where can I find the dongle in Device Manager? I have not found anywhere and maybe that's the sticking point.
I'm really desperate.
Would be great if someone can help me.

I have been procrastinating this for weeks now because this kind of stuff never seems to go smoothly for me.  Now I have started my attempt and I can not get past step 2.  I have uninstalled CUE, and now for the life of me I CAN NOT get the keyboard to show up in in my computer using the PIN HOLE method so I can delete the bin file and copy the downgraded one.  Can anyone explain exactly what they are doing at this step.  I have my keyboard off, bluetooth dongle unplugged.  I then turn my Keyboard on, insert a pin under the one flip down leg and you can feel a slight depress of an internal reset button.  Then while holding the pin in, I plug the bluetooth dongle in...and nothing.  I have tried pressing the pin in with the keyboard off and the dongle unplugged, then turning the keyboard on, then plugging the dongle in...and nothing.  I have also tried these methods using a few different USB cables as well, and also on my main PC, and my laptop.  I CAN NOT get anything to pop up.  I have found in the past that I am missing something so simple.  So I am going to calm down, step back, put on an episode of Game Of Thrones and reach out to you guys and hopefully somebody can point out the obvious thing I am missing.

Current Update:

I just got the CRP DISABLD drive to show up.  I restarted my pc (not sure if that helped), then had my keyboard off, helf in the pin then plugged in to my pc via USB cable and it popped up.  Ill keep you posted how it goes.

Another Update:

I can get the keyboard to show up and delete the firmware file then copy paste the old 1.02 version.  Then I open Cue 2.24 as administrator.  I then plug my keyboard back in with a usb cable and it shows up in CUE and says there is a firmware update, I simply cancel and DO NOT update it.  Then the Keyboard in CUE sort of greys out and you cant not click on it.  I then turn the keyboard off, then plus the dongle into my PC and turn the keyboard on.  I can now select the K63 in CUE and change the lighting effects and so on.  In the directions it says "Flash 1.02 firmware using CUE software", I don't see that option but I'm assuming its running that firmware because I deleted the new firmware and put the old firmware onto the keyboard.
Anyways, once I do this I try with the XIM Apex and its still dead unless I use a USB cable.  I did this twice, the second time I deleted the dongle from my device manager (that took me awhile because it doesn't show up as "corsair dongle" just a standard name that was the same as 10 other devices so I had to unplug and plug a few times to locate what one it was) it still did not work with my XIM.  Is there anywhere in CUE that shows me the firmware on the keyboard currently?  Ive been at this all day and so far I'm considering finding a new keyboard and mouse, or re ordering the same keyboard in hopes that it has the old firmware on it.  I have to be close.

I can't express how much I appreciate everyone's help.  Thanks to all the knowledgeable users on here, my K63 keyboard is once again working flawlessly with no wires.  I have posted another link that has the keyboard 1.02 firmware, CUE 2.24.50 and I also included a WordPad doc where I broke down every step that I took with details in case anyone is getting hung up like I was.

Hi Guys,

Nice to see that you managed to use K63 keyboard wireless, I just got the keyboard and after that I found out that I need to get adapter to use for PS4. So should I get the XIM apex for that and will it work ? I have the instructions how to do that but I don't want to get it and be useless like the keyboard.

Also, it would be really nice to get the link of instructions like from youtube if it  exists.

Congratulations to the ones who managed the wireless connection and hope to get help from you.

thanks,
