Title: Stick buttons not mapping (IN BIOSHOCK)
Post by: end_user on 08:34 AM - 01/20/08
Hi,
My keyboard/mouse mappings are working, except for the analog and digital stick buttons (when you depress the sticks on the 360 controller) don't seem to be working in-game.
Specifically, toggle crouch and toggle zoom in BioShock.
Does it have something to do w/ the fact these are toggle commands on the 360 controller?
The keystrokes register in this window:

but no response in-game.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

So, you are seeing the LS and RS icons showing up in the tool and there are no errors in the log?

Hi OBsIV,
YOU are the greatest!   ;D

Yes, the LS and RS icons are showing up in the tool.

Log?  Maybe i made a mistake.   Let me go play around w/ it again.

Don't know if this helps, but here's how i have them mapped:

RightStick                = Key0
LeftStick                 = KeyTab

...And the stick info:

[DigitalStick]
Up                        = KeyW
Left                      = KeyA
Right                     = KeyD
Down                      = KeyS
SensitivityPrimary        = 1.0
SensitivitySecondary      = 0.5
SensitivityToggle         = KeyCaptial

Ok, if they are showing up in the tool (i.e. on-screen), but, not in-game, I'd try using the XFPS directly and see if it works. Either with a M/K hooked up, or, with a PS2 controller connected. Let me know the results of that.

Ok, I used just a keyboard to XFPS directly(without XIM) and the left/right stick press buttons worked.
Hmmm, maybe it's a bad connection or solder on the Toolstick ?
  Do you know which color wire (yellow wire = p1.4, for example) is responsible for the stick button presses?

Again, thanks so much for reading this!

Do all other buttons work (including Start and Back)?

yes, the start and back buttons map fine ....

hmmm, could it be the game itself? (Bioshock)   maybe if i test stick-button-pressing in another game it'll help troubleshoot ...

do you know of any demos i could download that feature stick button pressing?

another question:
what does that little black rotating wheel do on the toolstick?

thanks!

Yes, please try it out in another game. The locations of the sticks in the bit fields passed the XFPS aren't such that I'd be suspicious of data corruption.

About the little black wheel: these Toolstick daughter cards are demonstration/prototyping boards. That means they include various parts hooked to pins on the microcontroller so that you can try out various features of the microcontroller without needing extra parts. In this case, the wheel is a potentiometer (variable resistor). There are also LEDs you can light up and switchs that you can interface with too.

So could I hook up an led and punch a hole in my project box and have an indicator light such as green to show that the xim is pluged in? I know its not really needed, but it would be neat.

It would also be neat if the xim freezes to have a red light that flashes to let you know you are screwed and need to restart your machine and plug unplug xfps ya ya ya.

About the little black wheel: ....

So it dosen't matter that i moved that wheel all around while assembling?   ::)

So for troubleshooting, anyone know of a demo game i can D/L that has stick-pressing as a feature?

I belive in the manual it says the pot is on P1.6 so if no wire is connected it shouldnt do any thing, right?

p1.6 isn't one of the connectors.  sorry, what is "pot"?

OBsIV,
The results are in ... The stick button assignments worked fine in other games.  ???

Still not working for BioShock (toggle crouch & toggle zoom) This is crazy.

If someone has BioShock, can you please see if you can successfully crouch (left stick press mapping)

thanks (again) for reading.

I actually have a similar problem in COD4.  When using the XIM I have mapped:

RightStick = KeyE

When I press "E" it shows "RS" in the XIM picture display...however, when I am in the game it does nothing.  I removed the XIM and it works with just the XFPS.  I removed the XFPS and use an xbox controller and it also works.  Not a big deal as I don't have to use the RightStick button very often, but it would be nice to find a fix.

Come to think about it, I think I got the mapping backwards (not in the tool, but, in the firmware). You should double check. Try changing that to "LeftStick".

Potentiometer
are you running any other software like setpoint? my setup will not map correctly with setpoint enabled with my logitech G7

Hmmm, i might have Setpoint running (i'll check when i get home)

Thanks for the info!

Thing is, BioShock is the only game that stick button presses aren't mapping.

When you are saying you have the mapping backwards is that the reason why When what I set the Left Stick (Pushed In) and Right Stick (Push In) they are always opposite of what I set them to?

I.E.

set Left Stick (Pushed In) to Left-Shift to Crouch for CoD4
and Right Stick (Pushed In) to Left-Alt to Zoom for CoD4
and my result is that Left-Shift makes me Zoom and Left-Alt makes me Crouch?

I swore something was fishy when I set it up and I thought I mapped it right and had to go back and just change them around lol. . .

That is if I am right on saying that. ???

Yep, that's what it was!   I swapped the commands and all is good now. Excellent!

I'll post my Bioshock configuration as soon as i get it tweaked.

Thanks for the help.

Months old so likely resolved.

I'm closing this post and if anyone still needs some help they can start a new more current post.
