Title: Laser or Optical mouse for xim4?
Post by: richbambam360 on 10:19 PM - 04/05/14
when I first got my xim edge a couple of years ago I used my Logitech G9x laser mouse & found it worked great & after a while I purchased a Logitech G400 due to recommendations from these forums that this was one of the better mouses to use with the xim edge even though it was older tech & lower dpi & true I found this older optical mouse did feel better than my G9x.
Is it going to be the same for the xim4 where probabaly the best mouse to use is still the Logitech g400 or some newer laser mouses with higher dpi will be better

from my experience there are some bad apples in both laser and optical classes.

I wouldn't say either tech is the better pic. Most mice (both optical and laser) at their max cpi ... will produce some "jitter" or erratic behaviors because their true cpi has been multiplied several times.
When xim gaming .. the max dpi/cpi isn't always the best solution for accuracy and control.

Often on my xim's I'll pick the highest dpi and work my way back until I fell less jittery movements. which usually is far below the max speed of the mouse.  :)

I have never had any issue with my G500 at max DPI.  However after 3 years of nightly bashing on BF3 the LB is on its way out.  Might look to the G600 next as a like the look of the extra buttons which could make up for some awkward placements on the Sony Nav.  Will have to take it for a test drive before purchase though to ensure its not too bulky / heavy.

Just been looking at this on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GXFDDL4/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
Looks really good but I seem to recall XIM3 having an issue with similar multi button mice such as the Naga.
Can anyone confirm whether the G600 or Razer Naga in the end worked with XIM 3 or Edge?

Ah yeah - forgot about the list.  Naga and G600 are on there.  This Chinese knock off not surprisingly isn't.

This is the mouse i use.  I LOVE IT!  It is a little on the heavy sidebut the side buttons are perfectly laid out.  You can put a death grip on this thing and not accidentally bump buttons like other "mmo" mice.

Roccat makes awesome stuff.  Would like to see more of their stuff on the supported list.

Just picked up their Ryos MK Pro Keyboard (with brown switches).

They have an optical version of their top mouse coming out soon too.  Kone XTD Optical.

Let me ask you guys, do you think mouse pads really make a difference ...I've been using a Logitech G5 (laser) from the original XIM days on just about anything hard & flat ...and seemed fine

I have g602 + Edge and It is flawless, Not many buttons ( But necessary ones)  500 hz wireless receiver, very LONG lasting batteries Even in performance mode, very suitable for every circumstances : desktop console, desktop pc ( Just move the receiver from xim to front pc usb)  laptop console with sony navigator or... G13 or whatever wireless you prefer ;)

The G602 only advantage is long battery life and an OK sensor. Thatís it. Itís a bad design for the thumb and low DPI and also heavy like an Elephant especially with two batteries. I have it so I know what I am talking about.

Personally, I like having a pad. What you use doesn't really make a difference. I've used both a cheap memory foam pad, and I use a ROCCAT mat at home.

Yes, pads can make an enormous amount of difference.  Different sensors work best on specific surfaces.
