Title: The Official XIM 2014 Post Your Setup Pics Thread
Post by: Sgt8Bit on 06:36 PM - 03/17/14
There are a couple of threads scattered throughout the forums (XIM2 forum, this forum), but there is no central location for all setup pics.  Plus a lot of people have probably upgraded their setups due to the next gen consoles hitting/XIM4E hitting.

So, to have one central location starting in now, please post your awesome setup pics.

It was a sad day having to move my setup downstairs...
I've lost my man cave..

A moment of silence please.

Chopped my old desk down until after we decorate then i'll pick a better desk that will tie in with the rest of the colors in the living room, right now it's an eye sore but it downs the job nicely.

When i eventually get my Oculus Rift i'll be able to be seated on the sofa right next to the PC :D
I just need to find away to route an Ethernet cable around the living room to the SKY box for Sky Anytime...

Yea it's really bad i know :|

McStabby, you notice any input lag on that tv when using your XIM??

Not in game mode.  Without game mode I get about 150ms lag.  In game mode maybe 10-20ms.

I game on the center monitor and mostly browse on the secondary. This makes it a lot simpler to use the web or chat while I am PC gaming on my main monitor.

My PC is in the back facing an odd direction because it saves desk space and gives me very fast and easy access to the back ports. Power button is on top so this doesn't affect my ability to turn it on. Don't bother with a disc drive so I don't care if the front faces me or not.

And then there is my 360 and XB1 on the other side, my Samson 850 headphones plugged into my DSS which is currently hooked up to XB1, I usually unplug the DSS itself and plug it into the PC when I want to PC game. 360 just goes through monitor speakers because I don't need good audio for single player games, which is mostly all I play on it nowdays.

I plan to put my XB1 Kinect on the wall back there, but I can't find my stud finder so I need to go to Lowe's or something before I do a wall mount solution.

And yes that is a white garbage bag covering a window. Only positive way to keep out nuclear fallout. (the window is broken and this is my temp fix)

Also hi, this is my first post.

(http://i.imgur.com/n9XugYf.jpg) I just got the Alienware and the 24" Asus gaming monitor last week. Love my new setup. It's just missing the XIM4 now. I packed up my 360 and XIM3 since I play Titanfall almost exclusively. EDIT: I'm dumb and didn't link the pic correctly

Such a clean setup you have there. Have you ever used the Logitech G13? I'm debating on getting a Orbweaver as well but would love someones input from a G13 user.

This is where I do most of my gaming when I'm doing multiplayer, or can't play on my TV in the living room because it's being used by my roommate, or I'm trying to keep it down when he's sleeping.  I'm kind of OCD with cable clutter/tangling so I like to keep them all nicely bound, and kept out of sight.  The desk is just one of the corner ones from walmart, and I affixed an oak board to the side to support the monitor mount.

The monitor swivels 360 degrees so I can keep it out of the way, extend it towards the bed for Netflixing myself to sleep, towards the pillowchair for casual late-night gaming, or towards the office chair for hardcore monitor-in-the-face multiplayer.  The white thing under the monitor is a battery-dispenser I made because the TB X41's run off of rechargeable AAA's and it gives no warning when they're about to die.  I can usually change them out in about 5 seconds flat without having to take the headset off.

Absolutely love this monitor, except it did not come with VESA monitor mount holes in the back.  I carefuly pried the bezel off the back enclosure and drilled holes through it. I fabricated a metal reinforcing plate, complete with mounting holes that I tapped, then glued it to the inside of the enclosure, ensuring that the the holes were lined up before reassembling the monitor.  This can be done with just about any monitor, provided there is enough room in the enclosure for a 1/4" thick metal plate.

The home made, folding lap pad for my XIM.  Made out of 2 large cutting boards, including the controller holster which is made out of the scraps from where I cut the handles off and two large garage tool hooks.  I've been using this for almost 3 years now and it's held up to some pretty serious traveling.  the XIM and The G13 are held in place with Velcro.

For ergonomics I fabricated a palm support out of a tennis ball, two 1/4" step bushings, and a 1/2" piece of aluminum rod.  It is completely removable for cleaning.

This is my living room setup.  Two 22" dell monitors and a 47" vizio 3D TV are all driven off my desktop.  I rarely do any PC gaming anymore, but my roommate uses it for Diablo 3, and it (ATI 5770) runs that quite well at the highest settings and even handles Passive 3D.  The computer also has a toslink expansion card so it can take advantage of my 1000W system.

Finally, my stained oak lap board for PC use.  I datoed the end so I could add a piece of cutting board flush with the rest of it.  Cutting board is a great surface for optic/laser mice.  It is incredibly smooth, easy to clean, and I've had no tracking issues with the mouse optics.  I also added nylon furniture feet to the bottom so it does not scratch up my nice oak table.

I lost my man cave a while back and have resorted to couch gaming the last few years.  I have had all sorts of combinations of desks and chairs and finally came up with this custom lap desk.  It holds all my stuff securely and between it and my folding chair i can be set up in about 1 minute.  They both fit in the hall closet and so it keeps the wife happy.  It's very comfortable,  cheap and easy to make,  and stores very easy.  Details and tutorial videos here.  [URL] http://xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=32196.0[ /URL]

Mobile Gaming Setup:

Samsung 24" Monitor, 360 Slim, Turtle Beach X41 headset, folding lapdesk (XIM3, Logitech G13 & G500) and cables (4x10ft cat5, 1x100ft cat5, 5 port cat5 hub, 2x cat5 couplers, 6ft toslink, X41 receiver usb power, headset chat cable, HDMI to DVI cable, Monitor power supply, Xbox power supply)  many of these cables are duplicates of the ones I have all neatly tucked away on my gaming desk, so I do not have to fish them out every time I'm on the move.

I cut some material out to protect the monitor screen.  Everything fits easily and survives checked baggage.  In those cases I pack a few days of clothing around everything to protect it all.

For those of you interested in obtaining one of those sexy folding lap desks, come see my post in the Member Projects!

I blue myself for the first time!  lol I ordered a nzxt 2 meter adjustable blue led light strip.  Should get here next week, and if that's not enough blue, I can replace the 3 corsair fans with the antech ones I found at best buy.  Higher rpm's anyway.  Don't think it will be necessary for cooling.  I had metro 2033, watchdogs, and crysis at their highest settings with the gpu clock offset by 68 and I hit maaaaaybe 50c.  CPU is running really cool as well.

which makes me wonder, is the temperature what you go off of to determine a safe clock offset?  If so I have a lot more room!

It'll change slightly, just because of that fact that I'll have my XBone controller plugged into the XIM4 instead of M&K.

My computer desk pulling double duty now.  Thankfully, I bought a Logitech K400r keyboard a few months back, saves me from plugging/unplugging the G15.

Rockin my G15 keyboard and G5 mouse... which is almost a decade old.  Need to grab a G502 soon.  lol

Just gotta say, XIM4 is pure awesomesauce.  It's exceeded all my expectations so far, and I've only been using it for a few hours against bots in Ghosts.  Thanks again, OBsIV!

Good Morning ladies,

I finally got my gaming room setup.
Took a little while but I am pretty happy with the out come.
The cupboard to the left houses my xbox one and 360.
I have cut a whole in the back for all my HDMI, USB, Optical cables.
Cut a hole in the bottom left of it for the power cables and then I have cut holes and placed wents over them.
I am still thinking about placing fans in but I will have to think about extra power for the fans to fun.
For now I do actually open the cupboard when I play.

Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth
Mouse: Razer Ouroboros
XIM4

Razer Orbweaver is on order and should arrive tomorrow.

I really enjoy them.
I liked my Astros A40's a little better but they had a lot of cables and just gets messy if you have 2 cables running off of them all the time.

If you are thinking about getting them do yourself a favor and get a battery charger and rechargeable batteries. Best investment you can make.

LOL, I have the x41's, just no XB1... yet.  I've had them for about 3 years and the battery charger has probably saved me $100's.   Thinking of upgrading to the PX5's or something completely wireless and bluetooth.  One less cable and one less thing cluttering up the 2.4ghz bandwidth.

Am I the only one using XIM4 laying on my lazyboy infront of the TV? I have a wooden plank I found in the attic across my armrests and it works fine.

I'll take some pics when I get home and post them here.

I looked into it but I was unable to do so as I actually gamed on a bean bag more than a couch.
I also required the office setup so that I can actually study.

Carlos, you need to upload the image to a site like tinypic.com (http://tinypic.com) or imgur.com (http://imgur.com) and link to the uploaded file, rather than the one on your hard drive.

Here's my setup. When we had our second child my gaming room / office turned into a baby room so I wasn't sure where I could play. In the winter I played in the garage because the weather was sweet but Florida summer is brutal, so I put this gaming cart together. Now i can play wherever I'm "allowed to be loud" lol. I have my xbox one and 360 in there,  the xim3 on the top and everything else is on a hook inside the cart. I use a 26in TV mounted onto a flatscreen computer monitor stand so I can get some height and tilt action. It's actually not a bad setup... considering

Yeah, I actually grabbed this from work. Its basically a "technology" or "projector" cart. It has an adjustable shelf that you can also tilt- and then when the front opens, thats what creates the shelf on the right where i have my mouse. I velcro'd my xboxes to the shelves and did the same for the power bricks on the bottom. Then I have a little plastic case that holds my controllers and batteries. I have some cat5 wound up on the side incase i need to plug in and an extension cord on a hook on the back.

https://www.datalinksales.com/office_furniture/ds_projector_carts_presentation_stands/projector_presentation_carts.html

These are very similar to what I have. I have the model that came out right before this. It has a bunch of small air holes on the sides that you can put screw through without having to drill... Makes hanging things inside really easy and wire management is cake.

This is how you entertainment center:

For hardcore stuff.  The response on the TV is good, but not monitor good. Wall mounted monitor with a 18" adjustable arm.

The unit on top of the 360 is a 4x2 HDMI matrix.  Four inputs on two simultaneous outputs.  Right now the three inputs are the One, 360, and the PC; the two outputs are the TV and the wall-mounted monitor.  The PC also bypasses the matrix and goes straight to the TV.

Specs are in my sig.  Had to custom cut some Poly for the unit under the PC to keep the ferrets out.  Also just finished wiring the house so each room has cat5 wall ports.

My messy @$$ setup lol.
You would feel so much better if you saw mine, which is never going to happen because of how mine looks.  I have a very large gaming behemoth PC with so much stuffed into it that some has to dangle on the outside.  I have three each of 360 and PS3 (this is for surround racing on GT and Forza).  I have a PS4 here too.  All of them have a couple of controllers, MS curve keyboards, headsets, and the like.  I also have a big Hori fightstick.  I have multiple mice and keyboards and a Razer Hydra.  I also have my home server, a laptop, a netbook, a tablet, and two cell phones (one wp8.1, one android) near the desk.  I have XIM3 and a XIM4 and all of their associated cable noise.  I have a G13, an Orbweaver, and a keyboard all in use.  I have a kvm.  I have two Navs I cycle between, one charging and one playing.  I have an Oculus Rift DK1.  There's also a massive UPS to keep the imporant stuff alive during common power blips where I live.  And every networked thing in the house branches off of the 16-port switch behind the desk.  This is all to say nothing of the tools I use for modding this gear, scattered around the area.

It's a freakin' mess, is what it is.  Being a technophile isn't all sunshine and roses, I tell ya.  The cable mess is not manageable.  Zip ties don't cut it.  Sleeves don't cut it.  They aren't enough and it's too dynamic anyway, constantly being changed to try things.  It's just a permanent mess.

Ergo, no pics.  :)

As an atheist, I don't think your neighbor is actually Christian, sounds more to me like a scared person hiding behind a veneer of false morality in order to bolster a sense of security and superiority. There are people who follow rules, and then there are people who do nothing but beat others over the head with rules (whether the follow them themselves or not).

There is also my gaming room, but honestly I rarely take the PS4 in there.  Still, if we're showing off...

I pretty much just use the Alienware for the Xim manager, it would be nice to have Mac support on that so I don't keep wasting my Alienware just for that and I could sell it.

Upload the image to a site like Photobucket, copy the direct link, and paste it in-between the bracketed img tags obtained by clicking the picture icon under the italics button.  I don't believe you can do this with facebook unless I gives you a direct link to just the photo.

Thank you, I appreciate it.  It has been piece by piece as I can afford it.  I have extravagant tastes on an average budget, lol.  It can take awhile.  The Den system took 1.5 years and the Living room is still a work in progress.  The Emotiva gear came after these shots were taken, and I'm still stealing the center channel out of my Den until I have enough to get the Motif X (c'mon tax return!).  Movies and games definitely have the "wow factor" now though, I love it!

Considering the name suggests this thread was intended for posting setups in the year 2014 only, and given that ship has already set sail... perhaps a 2015 thread should be started, instead of continuing the posts here, to keep them relevant.

Just for the sake of keeping it organized, might be a good idea to lock this thread and link it to the 2015 thread... same would go for the 2015 thread & all those after. Also, move Steel's post to 2015 thread.

Or

If you want to do this the easy way, I guess dropping the "2014" in the title would suffice.

Edit: I've started a new thread. (http://xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=39334.0)
