Still a total kid and geek at heart.

It actually makes perfect sense to me....
Most of us older guys (44 here) started out with Atari and Nintendo. As things progressed we (at lest "I") moved to computer based games and got use to using a mouse. When the Playstation and Xbox came around and the consoles took a big leap, it came time to move back to consoles rather than upgrading the video card every other week. After using a mouse for years it's hard to go back to the sticks so that's when it's time to find XIM. :)
43 here. So hurry the hell up OBsIV!

Pretty much sums it up for me. I got tired of hacking in pc or always suspecting it, and the cost of constantly having to upgrade converted me over to console. I refused to buy a console until this little device called a Xim came along.

Dude.. THAT WAS THE WORST!
Kid's these days have no idea how much they should cherish laser mice.
I remember getting my first neutered mouse and playing CS 1.6... was amazing.

oh god - those days
We are in danger or extinction guys, the new generation of gamers are all console players, controller players. The PC community is getting smaller as the time goes by. As someone above me said, its not surprising at all that the average age here is around 29-30

But at the same time there was nothing as satisfying as a freshly cleaned mouse. Instant gratification.

38 here. Good to see so many people in my age group. I guess it makes sense since most of us were all heavy pc gamers in the past and use Xim now.

I don't think that's true at all. Most of my friends and co-workers are all primarily PC gamers and only a handful are console players. My co-workers are all much younger than me (I'm 45) and they have no interest in consoles at all. I am primarily a PC gamer as well. I just have a 2 close friends that only game on console so I use the XIM so I can play with them without wanting to pull my hair out.
For background, I went from Atari 2600 > Colecovision > C64 > Amiga > PC. I've always owned all the current consoles but after the C64 mostly played on the PC and definitely when the 3DO/N64/PS1 generation came out I found out how ridiculous it was to try to play a FPS with a controller, especially after years of playing Doom / Duke 3D / Quake / etc with mouse & kb.
Anyway, I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions about PC gaming - it's bigger than it's ever been and nowhere near as expensive as people like to make it out to be and you get a much better game experience overall. Consoles are great because they can limit the amount of hacking / cheating and they never need to be upgraded (which is also a downside).

Well I don't know how you are concluding that PC gaming community is bigger than ever. The biggest it ever was, its when command and conquer and battlefield 1942 were popular . its declining everyday because of hackers and prices of upgrades which in my opinion its a rippoff . we should focus on topic though. I don't think I will ever stop gaming. Its always been a part of my life and I will keep playing until I can't anymore :)

Full disclosure, my first PC was an Apple IIe (gasp!). All my friends had one too, which made the decision easier.

thexder, that is a blast from the past. My favorite store in high school was Software ETC. and I remember when they only had a dozen games to pick from at any time. felt like 1 good game came out every few YEARS back then. Thexder was one of those games I bought for my ibm model 30.
GATO 1 and Starflight and Bards Tale 1 got my hooked on PC DOS gaming. when I was a grade schooler. Back when a 8088 Zenith PC with 256K of RAM and a code wheel for copy protection was cutting edge.
back in "those days" you had to understand how to edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat files, including having multiple configs for your computer for different programs!
I remember learning how to use internet FTP back in 93 in order to download a shareware program called Return to Castle Wolfenstein. From there I cemented my passion for technology and led to a career.
its almost sad today that 99% of games just "work" and don't require fiddling with your PC so its like that gateway to technology is closed.
fun to reminisce with you old timers! ha!
30 is young?

I was thinking of getting some new glasses for gaming lol. I wear contacts 99% of the time so my glasses are a $20 pair lol.
Is this first set of glasses at all for you or do you prefer glasses to contacts when gaming..
Wow, I feel young in here.

Yeah this was my first pair of glasses EVER!
It was a pretty hilarious experience to be honest. I sit exactly 4 1/2ft. from my monitor. So I made the optometrist stand that far away with his little letter chart. He got so annoyed going back and forth between making adjustments and holding the chart 4 1/2ft. away that he called in his secretary to hold the chart for him. I wasn't leaving there until I had perfect vision at that distance lol..
I have 15/20 vision for distance. But reading off the monitor started to get a little blurred at times so I thought WTH I'll give glasses a try just for that. Man, I am amazed at how much it improved my vision for gaming. I see blacks and reds so much better that it almost seems 3dish. Everything really pops out, I would compare it to seeing 480p and then suddenly 720p. I'm seeing alot of little details that I honestly didn't even no I was missing. Pretty cool cause I thought my vision was actually really good without glasses!

Pretty sure I've mentioned this before on the forum but I'm 1972 as well. Teenager in the 80's and big time into "Hair Bands" (still am :).

My era as well, born in 1970.

80's were great.
Yes, in the US "Hair Bands"/"Hair Metal"/'Glam Rock" are all names for this genre of music. For me it was Van Halen, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Poison, Cinderella, Whitesnake, Guns N Roses, Slaughter, etc.
I don't think Metallica would associate themselves with Hair Bands. People would say they were just Metal.
Metallica was definitely heavier than the hair bands except for their self titled album (enter sandman, unforgiven, nothing else matters). That album was much lighter than any of their previous ones and had similar sounds to the hair bands at the time. I remember many of their hardcore fans were so pissed with that album......lol.

Oldest has to play youngest 1o1
In the year of our Lord, 1970, there arose upon this planet, a hybrid of human and god the likes of which haven't been seen before or again. His name?......uh, I can't remember! For you see, I was born that same year, and I am merely an old fart with a bad memory. So, when you look for the........er.........ummmm....I forgot my point. Carry on.
That 41 spike, what happened back then? ATARI 2600 released and we were getting 6 in 1978?

Someone posted an age of 71, but that is their only post. I'm treating it as a troll post and am not including it.
1984 saw the largest number of XIMers born. 1949 had the honor of witnessing the birth of our oldest member, and 2001 the birth of your youngest.
Almost 70% of all members were born between the year 1969 and 1988.
Our members have seen 5 major overseas conflicts, and numerous smaller ones. Only 15% of our members were alive for the landing on the moon. 85% were alive for the fall of the Berlin Wall. Medical advances, technological breakthroughs, civil rights, and so much more. We encompass the memory of countless experiences. We are an amazing and unique group of individuals, brought together for a very niche reason, but held together by more.
