I pre ordered mine from Microsoft on the 11th. It came out yesterday (on Microsoft's web store) and is out for delivery today. According to Microsoft it doesn't come out till the 7th so I don't know how they screwed that up on their own site.

Also just in case you didn't know if you get the adapter early but aren't on the early update preview beta you won't be able to use the adapter until the new update is realeased to the public.

You can stream game audio through the new adapter. Pretty sure the hacked one can't do that. I also have a hacked adapter.

Oh yeah and you can apparently plug a 4 pole y splitter into the controller and then a set of headphones and mic and be totally wireless just like the DS4.

Getting stereo through the adapter is a cool idea.  I wish I could have the adapter now! Although the audio-pass through isn't ready with the xim4e yet anyway.

yup without audio passthrough it really doesn't benefit me to own one of these devices since I only play Xbox with XIM.

Might as well get it since it is coming eventually. If Obsiv said its not possible then yeah I could see no point in getting it.

That etsy page is mine.  Thank you all for checking it out.  I am wondering how many modifications I will be doing once the Official Microsoft adapter is released.  I too have heard that game audio will come through the Microsoft Adapter.  I don't know how that will work with the Xbox 360 headsets.  Anyhow I think that there are still reasons to buy my adapter, some of which are;

*We have all already given Microsoft enough money.  Lets spread the wealth to the little guy making a quality product.
*Why buy new headphones if you don't need too?
*My adapter works and people that have it love it (read my eBay reviews).
*What's cooler than an accessory with Paracord.
* I provide phenomenal customer service.
*My price is competitive with Microsoft

This morning I checked my etsy "shop stats". The stats showed that several people came to my etsy shop from this website so I checked it out and found the post about the Xbox one chat adapter.  On my end it was sort of surreal to see someone I never met or corresponded with talk about something I was doing.

I encourage all of you to come over my etsy shop to support me while I provide you a great product.

Thank you.

Beez - I don't have a page, I just do it locally other than fellow XIMMERs. Mine are a bit different as I use Mogami W2435 and 2.5 Stereo TecNec(Astros/DSS/Turtle Beach/Factory 360) or 3.5mm Stereo Neutrik(ModMic).

Does anyone have the official chat adapter and did the modded adapter?

I want to see if it is worth buying, but reading the review of the official one, it doesn't seem like it's worth the money.

Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong but does the hacked one output game audio or chat/game balancing built in? I can plug Y splitter into the official one, with a headphone and Modmic and be completely wireless. Of course if this doesn't interest you then pay the same amount for the hacked one.

Only reason to go hacked is if you are you doing it yourself otherwise you are paying the same amount for something that isn't official and does less. Keep in mind I have both.

Ahh yeah, I use a mixamp right now for game/chat balancing.  I also bought an hdmi audio splitter so I could get a 5.1 signal to the mixamp for better sound whoring.

Thanks for the info.

i plan on using the DSS to get game/chat audio - the hacked controller is only going to be for my mic.

The output from this would only be stereo. If you have a Mixamp, DSS(2) or other optical dolby solution, I would not consider this a 'feature'.

As Beezels says, most people will only use the controller for chat functionality. In which case, either one will work the same.

Still its an option. I just don't see how it makes sense to pay the same/more for less and unofficial but thats just me.

To each his own!

The current adapter w/ headset is mono out for sound and mono for mic due to the single speaker. The new adapter is a TRRS(4 pole) 3.5mm allowing for mic(mono) and stereo headphones.  Most will use a DSS or Astros to drive their ($400)headphones/Mic Combos.

I can do the PCB mounted 2.5mm like the 360 but the space inside the adapter is quite cramped.

There has been lots of talk about Microsoft looking at options to stream virtual surround through the controller (essentially making the official adapter a Mixamp of sorts which lets you balance the game sound/voice chat).

So if Microsoft does release some further firmware updates to the controller/system, it will only be the people with the official Microsoft product that will benefit from this.

If you want to future proof yourself and just have peace of mind, why would someone want to pay the same amount for a "hacked" adapter?

Since the xbone allows multiple it's one of mine yeah lol.

YogaPantsLuvah
SpiiicyChips

are the two I use but yoga doesn't work on the 360

I never advised anyone to purchase a hacked adapter. I already have one that I made myself, so I'm not spending another $25 for an official adapter on the off chance that it may get some surround functionality in the future,

Not to mention it's not in stock anywhere right now.

They were available early off Microsoft Store and Amazon, but a couple of days ago they took them down and are selling them at a normal release date at the start of March.

I was lucky enough to snag an adapter off the Microsoft Store when it was available. Shipped on the 25th and got it on the 26th  ;D

Not sure if Amazon fulfilled their orders on the 25th like Microsoft Store did.

I was happy to see Albert Panello of the XBox team recently say that they are thinking of enabling virtual surround sound for the headset adapter, and it would be a mere software upgrade.  If they got a license for Dolby Headphone, then it would eliminate the need for an Astro Mixamp or Turtle Beach DSS. It appears that the headset adapter will allow us to use standard PC gaming headsets, which are generally cheaper and have much larger selection.  Here's the actual quote and URL from the Reddit session:

"For now, the adapter transmits only stereo audio. Keep in mind, when you're dealing with only two speakers, and we chose higher quality stereo vs a virtual surround, since the advantage of surround isn't obvious until you get into very high-end discreet speaker headphones. We are discussing some sort of virtual surround, but I think the high quality Stereo sound (the Bass on our headset is amazing), plus great chat, and the adapter for $80 is a pretty great product."

I got the same delivery date message from Amazon as well. I am also disappointed bt that date, so I am planning to stalk my local Microsoft retail store to see if I can get one there on March 7. Maybe there is a way to get one reserved from their stock.

Not likely to replace the like of the DSS or the Astro Mixamp as the audio would be compressed over the wireless signal to the sound would be degraded and it would not provide the amperage needed to properly drive headphones that some of us use here. That said it's nice to see that are starting to listen to the customers since it was crap that they released with the factory unit along with no dolby headphone that was already provided w/ the 360.

So, I got my adapter yesterday and I've been using it with my Sennheiser PC360's. I've gotta say, it's the best wireless audio I've ever heard. If they can incorporate virtual surround sound in an update there would be basically no reason to ever run an amp again. Even with just stereo I don't see how I can ever go back to the wire mess I had before.

I'll report back in when I've had more time to test the chat.

I've had nothing but issues with the mic. Not using a 360 headset, so getting a generic mic to work has been troublesome. Will be getting a headset buddy tomorrow and will report back on my findings.

Horrible static if the controller is attached to the console.  Disappears when running off the batteries resulting  in having to do the two controller solution unless a patch of some sort fixes the issue.
Title: Re: Xbox One chat Adapter
Post by: OvC4LiFe on 01:16 PM - 03/09/14
I dont have an edge to participate in the beta so I have to do the two controller method-- I suppose it's better than having no mic at all/party chat. I have recahrgables so Im sure the battteries would last a while if it were unplugged from the console, just a pain in the arse.
Title: Re: Xbox One chat Adapter
Post by: OvC4LiFe on 04:24 PM - 03/09/14
Something i haven't figured out using the 2 controller method-- I can't hear other people talk unless I plug my headset directly into the controller (I use DSS for sound) and when I do the sound is just awful and quiet. I tried turning the game volume all the way up as well as using the chat adapter to turn the volume up to no avail-- is there a setting I'm missing here or is it just the way it is?

I tested this, sounds ok...when you plug the cable to the gold headsets the internal amplifier turns off, so the xbox is driving them. The MIC wasn't all good on XO,  sounded like I was really far.

Hmm...u know what the first thing i tested was the sound, i turn them on and off and there was no difference using the XO of course. May be u right when they are turned on the mic could be better, I'll have to try that later. the headset is actually very good on the PS4, no mic problem at all, sound is good and sim 7.1 without a mixamp is a great value.

I completely love that headset, if there is a platinum coming out I will buy that too. Only negative I found is the earpads would be great in another material gets a bit sweaty and its not even summer yet.
