Title: looking at mice to use with XIM4
Post by: Pneumatic on 06:38 PM - 01/21/14
I am coming from years of using 3 different versions of Aimon so I am use to the button layout on the mouse.  It hit me today that my trusty G500 only has 3 buttons on the side so I started looking at gaming mice for the first time in years.

What mouse are you XIM veterans using and how do you have it set up for thumb buttons?  Is there one with 4 buttons on the side (but less than 20 like some of the mice I have seen)?  I really only play COD so I will need to reload, couch, jump and switch weapons with the thumb buttons.

G700 , 500 or Razer Death Adder .... , Death Adder is the best one . but Less buttons.

I use a G700 myself.  I also use the G13 gaming pad.  Not sure why you would use a mouse to reload, crouch, jump etc.......that's why I have my G13 configured to do all that :)

I've been threw a lot of mice any thing laser doesn't track as well as optical.
So either the deathadder r.a.t.3 or g400 would be your best bet.

Recently purchased a Ouroboros with a DPI of 8500

I'll be trying both, but I am trying to get use to the new Ouroboros

I used an mx518 for a while then finally decided to upgrade to a g500. I also bought the g700 wireless but the weight just threw my game off. Only looked at g700 for the extra buttons ad realized I didn't even really need them. Lol so I am sticking with g500

If all you're playing is COD then go for the G400 it's the most precise and cheap!

If you need Macro's (cause you're used to Aimon, hey I'm Ex Aimon myself) stick with the 500 or go with the G9x or the 700.

400 > Deathadder

 :P

I currently use the G700 as well, I have been looking at the G602. Do anyone see that as a better mouse.

Logitech make some great peripherals, I’ve been using the G13 and G400 for some time now and both are excellent options for the Edge/XIM 4. Decided to try out a different mouse and found the Perixx MX-3000, its main features include –

•   Right-handed ergonomic shape
•   Customizable LEDs along the sides of the mouse
•   8 Button (total) programmable buttons (6 “actual”)
•   600-8200 dpi Resolution with dpi Switch.
•   Adjustable polling rate: 250Hz/500Hz/1000Hz
•   150ips & 30G Surface Tracking Speed
•   Adjustable weight cartridges
•   Braided USB cable & Gold Plated USB 2.0 Connector
•   X and Y axes independent resolution setting
•   Built-in Flash memory to store profiles

There are 3 buttons on the side of the mouse but the middle one can only be bound to keyboard inputs so isn’t recognised by the Edge (should work with XIM4). Overall this mouse is very cheap (£25.99), for the features you’re getting, it provides a bit more grip on my mouse mat as opposed to the G400 but I’ll get used to it. The back of the mouse is slightly more raised than the G400 and makes the mouse feel a bit more bulky, the G400’s ergonomics are spot on for me although it is very lightweight.

The Perixx is a laser mouse but I haven’t noticed much difference between it and the optical G400. The fact that it doesn’t glide as freely over the mouse mat coupled with the option to add weights makes my aim a bit more controlled. Being a high sensitivity player I sometimes find that distance shots are more difficult with the G400 as it can slide all over the place. Yes I could change my mouse mat and/or use my little finger for more control but I wanted to see what the Perixx was like and am happy with it so far.

Here are a couple of reviews of the mouse if you’re interested: -

I love my razer naga. I love binding keys to the keypad on the side of the mouse.

Well i like the ergonomics of the deathadder although not as much as the non available laser diamondback. The accuracy is pretty good although not perfect. Probably the new one combining laser and infrared can be more accurate. Shame that no existing mouse is as ergonomic as the good old diamondback :/

Today I saw them both for 59.99 at best buy

thanks for the suggestions!  The more I look at various layouts the more I think I like the G600.  There will  be a lot of unused buttons on the side but the ones that are there look like they are easy to use.

Is it possible (or will it be possible with XIM4) to bind more than one button to the same thing?  Like could mele be tired to two different mouse buttons?

The G700 has 4 buttons on the side but the look like they are set farther back. Anyone with big hands know if the side buttons are comfortable to use?

I had a g700 and i didnt like the feel of it. Went to my current razer mamba and love it. I find it has better control than that g700 for aiming and just feels better in my hand.  Its also dual sensor. Using it on a razer vespula mouse pad on the rough control side and its easy headshots everyday :-)

I am digging my G700s right now.  Came from Razor.  Like the feel, buttons are all useable and well positioned for me.  Didn't take me very long at all to get the feel of it.

I went to Best Buy today to get my hands on some of these and the G700 definitely felt the best in my hand.  The side buttons were perfectly placed and the shape was well suited for my big hands.

I personally did not like the razer deathadder I dont like its design it feels like its always slipping out of my hand. I like to be able to grab the entire mouse and its impossible to grasp the deathadder I bought about 4 mice and they all feel the same I think its because their too long and whenever I try and grab it I accidentally click the buttons on top I cannot find a mouse to fit my style and im tired of wasting money trying new ones

The bottom row of buttons on the G700 are kind of hard to press without accidentally also pressing the top buttons in my experience.

I'm just curious!
I currently have and use the G9x. I would like to know if having a higher DPI like 8200 is better than having a 5700 DPI for gaming with a XIM?

I use a 700 and don't experience lag......it is true the top buttons get pressed by accident sometimes but not much of an issue......feels great in hand.

Well bummer.  :-/

I would hate it if I try to go prone and switch weapons or reload.

I have a cyber snipa game pad for most of those moves .....I leave the top two side button blank so if I hit them while hitting the lower buttons it doesn't do anything...... more then enough buttons for what I like to do with the mouse.

I actually have one of those that I used with the Eagle Eye many moons ago but I really need the stick the left side now.  I just couldn't get back into using a keyboard for some reason (even though I was a PC gamer for years).  Once I got use to the Fragnstein I couldn't do it.

I don't recall....  What do you bind to run on with keyboard?  L3 and then press that along with the direction key?

People are forecasting a Q3 release now for XIM4. If that's the case then it's likely there will be newer mice options that currently aren't available.

To my knowledge there's been no update on the Q1 target. However, based on stated comments from last month the beta testing should have started. They haven't even finished with alpha and we'll be in Feb by next week.

There's been no update on the q1 status.

EXACTLY, so it hasn't changed yet.  The one thing I have noticed is when something is going wrong or delaying anything he let's us know.  I don't know why some of you people are still freaking out. If it's that bad buy a @#$% cronus.  There is a solution available to accommodate those that can't wait but stop making stuff up and crying over stuff when you really don't have any clue what's going on behind the scenes in detail, nor do they even need to let us know.  All you people are doing is getting other people confused.

No one wants to see chicken little #1 make a false statement which is then backed chicken little #2. Which then one needs to go search to make sure it's not true.  Buy a cronus or wait.

I personally can't stand using the controller any longer it just pisses me off.  I miss playing my games just as much as everyone else.  I may bite the @#$% bullet and waste money on a cronus if the beta doesn't drop soon or if I only had xim3 I would have bought one since day 1 of finding out it can make my Xim work.

From what I've seen, a Cronus + XIM3 works okay for games that have a smart translator available. But the unknown is for games like Titanfall where there is no ST to work from.

Nobody relevant is saying Q3. The beta does not affect the release timeline of the XIM4, just because the beta is late doesn't mean that the whole project is delayed by that. Obsiv had reiterated Q1 multiple times, but people ignore him and quote people that have nothing to do with the project. Why? For gods sake why?

The "why" is b/c there hasn't been much in terms of updates and let's face it, a lot of folks want to play Titanfall which is out Mar 11. Back in early Dec when news of the upcoming beta was surfacing this seemed like plenty of time to hit the target. Now we're at Feb and still no beta so it's not surprising people are speculating that a Titanfall/Q1 release isn't happening... except for Edge owners.

So basically no solid evidence, but rather conjecture and speculation.

The beta was slated for the end of January. As far as I can tell we are still on target.

The sky isn't falling.
