Title: Razer Blade

So what are your thoughts on Razer's major announcement, the Blade? $2,799 will buy you a Core i7-2640M CPU, 8GB of RAM and a GeForce GT 555M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Even though the laptop has a 17.3-inch full HD display, it's just 0.88 inches thick.

My thoughts: Seriously? $2,799 for those specs? The slimness certainly is impressive, but that touch screen and the LCD keys seem gimmicky to me. One point of interest: the GT 555M is supposed to be limited to 1.5GB of memory. The clock speed of the GPU will pretty much make or break this machine's gaming capability.

It looks good, for that price it better be macbook pro like build quality though.

As above. Looks good and a bold move for Razer but the price is hardly tempting. Must do better!

Dont do macs either... one of the recording studios i set up wanted a dual processor g5 and i tried to talk him out of it so hard... didnt win that one though stupid industry standard crap lol i wouldve much preferred a beastly pc but in the end since he was pretty bad with computers i decided the mac would b better for him anyway.
A different studio i set up for a friend free of charge i put a pc in and i ended up with more plugins and software for about a quarter of the price we paid for the mac setup. But at least the mac setup was legit.
On a sidenote i had a macbook g4 about 5 years ago that i sold and is still running well.... awesome build quality.

no doubt mac build quality is pretty high but never worth the price imo.

I like it.. Not so much the price, but if they made a smaller version of that in the 14 or 15 inch range, i'd consider one.  kinda like the touchpad over on the side too, no accidental taps when yo are typing.

I was interested until the pricepoint. Bring it down to like, $2000 and I'd think about it though.

Yeah, a 14 inch version would prolly work better for me. If they took out the touch screen bit and left the lcd keys, to bring the price down, but keeping the specs? I'd do it.

It looks really nice and stylish, but that's about it. Laptops are not my thing, I like the touchscreen, but then you can just buy the swtor keyboard.

^ more keyboards need to follow suit and get rid the age old keypad.

Hey now, I love my numpad! Just cuz you don't doesn't mean others hate it.

Yeah, but with a design like Razer's you could just run a numpad app on the touchscreen. Would be beneficial to like 99% of the population, who don't use it for gaming.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of such uses. When I said it was gimmicky, it was because they only demoed it while displaying game information that was already visible at the main display. According to Razer, this touch screen is also more sensitive than conventional touch pads. Did I mention the keyboard has full anti-ghosting? :) Still, the main selling point for me is the fact that it's portable despite its screen size.

Another laptop that tickles my fancy is the LG P330.

Spotted by the folks over at nDevil, the LG P330 comes in a matte black color and manages to fit some serious hardware under its brushed aluminum and magnesium casing. The laptop’s Sandy Bridge Core i7 processor is backed up by an NVIDIA GT555M GPU and also comes with a hybrid HDD/SSD. In addition, the 13.3” IPS display is likely to be the company's own Shuriken display that comes with a very narrow bezel. With a weight of just 3.63lbs (1.65kg)...
This laptop is also quite thin at 27.4 mm, and the HDD capacity is 1 TB. The screen's resolution is unknown, so I hope they're not going for the standard 1366 x 768. Sure, you'd lose some screen real estate, but the Blade is a lot heavier (6.9lbs/3.16kg) and probably pricier. The P330 also has a 4 core 2630QM processor instead of the 2 core 2640M that the Blade has.

On a side note: I would only use laptops for gaming on the go/shorter lan parties. My desktop computer is far more powerful than these, and I prefer desktops in general. If I was replacing my main computer, I would wait for Ivy Bridge and the next-gen GPUs (AMD will release new GPUs before next year).

laughable, for 2,800$ i can get a latop that triples the benchmark result of that razor laptop
not to mention what a real dektop for 2,800$ could achieve...

once again razor throws a medium quality gimmick on the market for the price of a high quality one
and yet people will buy it cause of the look and the cool name lol

oh and im sure the power supply wont last for more than 2 hours

There's really not much point of comparing laptop performance per dollar to desktop performance per dollar, one's mobile, one is not. It's priced similarly to the 17inch macbook pro which it has better specs than. If the enclosure is on par with the macs and the build quality is there, then I don't see why they shouldn't price it like that. On the other hand, they aren't really competing against them, I don't think any windows laptop is going to win over apple fans. I sure as hell won't be shelling out almost 3k for a laptop that will be crap in a couple years
