Title: YouTube - Original Music
Post by: CaptSackJparrow on 11:36 AM - 07/12/11
Anyone know of a good source for original NOT copyrighted music? Hard to find some good original alternative music for montages.

Alternative? Like the genre? Or any uncopywrited stuff?

There's a feature in youtube called Audioswap. I think you see it once you've uploaded.
This video talks about it more (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAm4GsEFRIY). I don't know how good is the selection.

Oh, thanks for the sub. Subbed you back too.

The Audioswap is pretty cool with great music but it completely replaces your original audio. I'm looking for something I can edit to mix in with the other audio I will be using. Hard to find really great artist who aren't signed...

There's also the idea of using music not liscensed... in America...

This might be sketchy (famous last words). You could upload dummy (private) video with your Audioswap song, then use this (http://download.cnet.com/Free-YouTube-to-MP3-Converter/3000-2194_4-10665553.html) to dl the song to .mp3 format locally -- then use the mp3 like any other song. Technically, it's freely licensed, right? (I'm not a lawyer as you can tell).

R u trying to avoid getting your vid taken down or do you have moral issues? A lot of smaller labels im sure arnt trolling yt for copyright infringement. Why not search myspace for unsigned artists within your genre... there are a lot of great unsigned groups out there but theyre just hard to find bc they dont have a whole huge marketing plan backing them. If you want metal i know a couple of groups.

I've just been hearing them pull more and more video's down because of this. I would think I could use any song found in the AudioSwap program.. I can (record) it as .mp3 from audio swap as  I work in an audio/video studio. I guess I will just find a song in there that I like, export it, and through it into vegas and edit my vid. Take my chances

This article is an interesting read, and worth it if you really want to use a song that will be removed unless you alter it.

very nice find. Guess I can throw them into ProTools and do some time compression and pitch shift. Should do the trick.

Time compression pitch shift is going to sound horrible on pro tools with the stock audio suite... unless you steal waves or something better and still it will prolly ruin the material.

FWIW, 2 years ago I had several videos on my YT channel (about 15) that were game clips/montages/etc with copyright protected music in them. YT originally muted all of my videos so the music wouldn't be heard. A few, I changed audio, and re-uploaded, then I added more videos with music that I thought was okay. Same @#$% happened.

After about 4 months, YT sent me a message informing me all of the infringing material had been removed. Translation: they deleted all 75 of my videos (even the ones with no music). Pissed me off because I didn't have anything backed up to my harddrive and I lost all my CS stuff.

Moral of the story: don't piss off the YouTube people, they will delete your @#$%!

Thanks for the tip Colb. I've been seeing a lot of the same scenarios just like that happening in the past on other forums. I found a guy who has decent rock music who is letting me use anything he has.  :D

That would be sweet...

I've tried recording some parts for use in the past, but sadly electric guitar needs bass and drums to really fit in with FPS vids.

Most deff man. I've thought about making some type of acoustic intro for all my vid's but can't get anything that "fits".

What genre?  Depending on what you are looking for I might be able to lay something down.

I installed a Miniflex 2mic in my Seagull S6... so my acoustic recordings are pretty flipping organic.

I'm not as good as this guy... but hes using the same internal mic system as I am.  Sounds incredible, and that's in his crap guitar.  My Seagull is nicer than that.

Dude if you know what your doing go buy a cheap midi controller... steal propellorheads reason and run it using rewire in protools... you can program some @#$% good drums in protools that way. Actually nowadays they prolly have some real time plugins you can use to for great drum sounds via midi. And doing it midi will give it a less programmed feel. God bless midi. Its allowed me to complete songs i couldnt play drums on several times. Its fun too.
