Title: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: rtmoose on 08:40 AM - 06/09/11
So... All the bf3 teases we've had from e3 this past week has got me thinking, and I've come to a few conclusions..

1: I will be playing on PC (building a rig specifically for the game)
2: since it uses the frostbite 2 engine.. The look and feel of the game is pretty close to BC2.. Destructibility is the name of the game.
3: if I start playing in October without any real experience (or habit) of using the destruction to my advantage I will be at a SERIOUS disadvantage to all the BC2 players that move to bf3.
4: Flying a jet or chopper will have the same physics as bf2, and it's like riding a bike, you don't forge how...

To sum up: I have to get back into the battlefield series, relearn the playstyle, look and feel of the engine... So I think I'm hanging up my COD boots, at least for the most part... So when bf3 comes out it will feel like a natural progression to me.

Anyone east/central who plays a lot of bc2 add me: rtmoose I will want to play with people.. Squadplay is the name of the game...

Anyone already on my FL who wants to join me I implore you

LETS DO THIS!!!

I've been trying to get people to play BC2 with me for over a year.  I've even invited you to a few games moose.  About fukin time. Should be on tonight around 10pm Pacific.

Post by: rtmoose on 10:03 AM - 06/09/11
That's 1am EST brother. I'll watch for you online though..

Umm.. Im gonna price it out but I saw a prebuilt rig with the same specs I want for 1500 (cad) so I can probably do it for 12/13 hundred.

Tbh my primary concern will be load times ... I will be playing on minimum graphics settings w high resolution.. Not one for eye candy.. And I want to be the first one in the game to beat everyone to the jets.. Yea I'm an air whore... So I'll have an SSD for my games for near instant loading

I'll be playing on the pc too, if you ever want to meet halfway we can play together in a chicago server. Those are usually good for both west and east players.

Should be playing on PC if you're going for the feel.  Anyone BC2 PC owners who want to play add me on Steam: YER DONE SON ..I kind of go between Black Ops on 360 and BC2 on PC.  PC is just a far better experience for any Battlefield game.

Do I need to drag out my x52 and blow the dust off the pc? I quit playing because there was nobody to game with. But I'd be willing to give it another shot.

Figueir2 (sp?) made a post in general about BC2 players maybe a week ago you should check out. I'm not an east coaster but he is however, we play around the same times. We are mostly rush players but we play a little conquest here and there when rush just isn't working for us. We are always looking for decent players that work as a team (especially since E3 and the video of BF3 it seems like there are a ton more noobs playing on our side). Look either of us up: CicatrizESP33 or St3ak and 3ggs

Edit: Went and found the post: http://www.xim3.com/community/index.php?topic=12541.0
As you can see there wasn't very much support for the idea. Unfortunately, these boards seem to be primarily filled with COD players and so finding BC2 players is fairly rare which is a shame because the game really isn't the same unless you are in a decent squad.

I wont lie, I will own a copy for pc and xbox. Just like cod4, mw2 and blops. Gaming is sooo expensive for me lol. Each time a new game comes out I'm looking at $110-140 because I do like to play both. PC for the sweet ping, larger servers and eye candy, xbox for the friends and no cheats (for the most part).

:( we are a community of kbm players who own xboxes... Most of us came from PC and still own one.. The reality is that bf3 will be better on PC.. I will still be ximming for mw3 and other games.. Just looking to bone up on the frostbite engine and the look/feel they have so I'm not lost when I get bf3...

I'll start being on around saturday tomorrow, since there's dedicated servers it shouldn't be too bad lol.
At any rate, I spam Medic like no one's business, and from what I hear I'm a fairly good one. (I get lots of, OH @#$% THE MEDIC IS DOING MEDIC @#$%)

Is BF3 going to hit the competitive scene or no?
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...

I would think so. People still play bf2 because its still a fun game to play.

moose, im completely down with this.  i have my bf3 rig planned and ready and in my cart.  just kinda hesitating due to the fact i dont know what the minimum specs are :(  do you have any idea what the requirements are?

Ya it's all over the net now.. Tey announced the specs at e3 I believe.. Pretty much what's needed to run bc2 at max will run bf3 on minimum?

On a side note WOW DO I SUCK AT BC2

Like seriously ... I need squadmates.. Maybe I need to NOT play rush alone against level 50s with instakill mod m14s and POW UR DEAd QTF?!?

Which I guess was exactly my point in doing this....

Sigh

Wouldn't it be better to fire BF2 on the PC moosy?

You'd prolly get more players from here to join you and it should also be more BF3-like.

Rush is all about TECHNIQUE!!!!    @#$% man, I wish I could be on earlier so we could squad up.

The trick about rush is that you DON'T just rush in, gotta scout that @#$% out, create diversions, arm the MCOM then set up ambushes and lay booby traps for the dis-armers.   Basically when you arm that MCOM it becomes your base to defend.

I'm so frustrated that our gaming times are so far off.

edit: Just uploaded a small clip of my game play for you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xomZV2Lp53I (youtube butchered the quality, sorry)

Notice how I infiltrate the enemy area, get an idea of my surroundings(enemies), wait for squad mates to spawn then sweep back towards the MCOM and arm.  Once it's armed I go on full defense until it's destroyed.   I pretty much dominate every round as attacker with this tactic.

If you have BF2, download Project Reality. PR mod is awesome and it comes with some insanely huge maps. Fallujah is like 4 square miles haha. Add that with 128 players, jets, choppers, etc and you have some insane fun. It seems very realistic though. The commanders and squad leaders get into it... if you don't play by the rules you get kicked off the server.

If anyone wants to play BC2, add me on XBL and let me know what times you usually play. Me and my brother both play at the same time, so that's 2 people that could be in your squad. We work as a engineer/medic combo. When we get into a tank or BTR, we can create some havock like nobody's business.

Aw man... I wish I could get on more... I love rush and only play that... With a game-hating wife, and a 2 month old, it gets real tricky. Last time I got on and played bc2 was before the ads translator came out, I think... You definitely need a squad, no doubt.

Does anyone play Vietnam? I wanted to try it, but haven't dl'd it yet.

Also, I WILL be playing bf3 regularly. I've already told her that I'll be MIA for a while when it comes out...

Post by: mist4fun on 08:55 AM - 06/11/11
Wow .. that is the worst clutch I've seen. What does the flywheel look like?
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: Hai iRnewHERE on 11:37 AM - 06/11/11
It's all put back together now so no pics of the flywheel.  It had a slight gouge in the surface but was easily machined out.

I told him he wouldn't be able to launch it on the stock clutch, he bet me he could.   He went about 50ft, lol.

Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: Bizzar1 on 05:57 PM - 06/12/11
That clutch has been slipping for awhile. I'd bet the flywheel has some hairline cracks in it.
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: Hai iRnewHERE on 09:59 PM - 06/12/11
Yeah it did.   We knew the clutch was the weak link but it had been holding at that power level for almost 2 years. My brother and I are prepping our cars for the track this summer and he had his new clutch ready so we took bets whether it would hold a redline launch and then dumped it.

Here's with the new ACT clutch installed:

I'm interested to see how our cars do against each other, two completely different set-ups, so many variables but I think it'll be close!

HEY.. this is MY THREAD BITCHES...

Stop your gawd damned woogie boogie car talk!!!

AHEM* holy shot bc2 is a bunch of spawn camping chopper thieves..

WHY DO PEOPLE GET IN THE PILOTS SEAT OF AN ATTACK HELO WITHOUT ALT WEAPON? don't they know about the hellfire missile?

And why don't more people use the tracker dart gun?

Medics that don't revive or drop health... Snipers hiding in bushes....

The only thing I'm loving so far is the spot system.. Especially w the kb/m I spot everyone I see.. Great for points when other people kill them, and you can kill people u don't even see by shooting at triangles lol...

This game absolutely requires a squad....
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: mist4fun on 09:59 AM - 06/13/11
Well the passenger needs to carry tracers for those hellfire missiles to hit their targets, how often does that happen? Also some pilots prefer flares, without them its only a matter of time before you are traced and rpg'd. I know on pc I rarely ever saw hellfire missiles when they fixed tracing helicopters, you literally had to run flares or you were doomed.
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: rtmoose on 10:31 AM - 06/13/11
Nah the passenger doesn't HAVE to.. As long as guys on the ground are tagging tanks your hellfire will lock on... There was ONE game I played in a squad where I was flying and had mates on the ground with tracer darts and I wad just standing off launching missiles at tagged targets it was sick... Too bad the chopper physics are so kindergarten... If I could fly that chopper like bf2 I would be in heaven....
Title: Re: Bf3, moose, PC and the frostbite engine...
Post by: rtmoose on 10:34 AM - 06/13/11
O yeah and I wanted to ask.. If you dumbfire a hellfire from the chopper you get that red square (guidance square, same as the UAV hellfire/stationary at turret) but the hellfire doesn't follow it... Is that a glitch or is it broken?  There are a LOT of obvious glitches and wierd things in the game you think people would have complained about...

^always wondered the same thing. I wish they moved the heli on onslaught atacama map. Did they not play and ask why the blades are hitting the boxes? or the reticle that can be seen from the acog sight when the gun is lowered and running.

on BF3
some @#$% console port problems that the pc has Like no dx11 in crysis 2 >:(. It is nice to see some development with PC as a first priority. The screenshots on xbox.com maybe from the console version but they look really processed or staged. There are shadows and other small effects that's missing from the videos. How much gameplay will be dumbed down for the xbox version? Thats my worry. I dont want to pay $10 more for xbox and get less. Can't beat xbox live though.

No, onslought was not in PC. Also, I used to play this game a lot on PC until I got tired of it. But would not mind playing it on Xbox with  a good squad. GT is Richard Cabesa. I'm in Mountain Time but am usually on late. It's really all I have going on right now until I leave for Korea.

Battlefield 3 Closed Alpha Trial Begins, Recommended Specs Revealed  [ Comment  ]
Wednesday, 20 July, 2011 at 9:40 PST | ^Scott^ | Print News
It appears the Battlefield 3 trial starts today for EA employees and other select members of the community. According to the FAQ, the trial's purpose is to do a number of server-related tests in preparation for the game launch, including load testing and back-end as well as feedback. This is not the open beta that is planned for September or the beta promised to buyers of Medal of Honor: Limited Edition. DICE is calling this a "highly tech-focused trial" with potential for choppy performance. The trial is scheduled to run through August 1st.

A Battlefield 3 Alpha 3 Trial site has launched, which prompts users for their birthdate and EA account. After filling in the appropriate information, most users will receive the "WE'RE SORRY - YOU DON'T MEET THE CRITERIA TO ENTER THIS SITE." error. It is unknown what type of criteria is needed to join the test, although we are guessing an @ea.com email address. The FAQ / Help section of the site reveals the trial recommended computer specs. These are of course not final.

Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial is set up only for testing purposes. Keys have been distributed to invited players through our veterans program and other key influencers. (via zh1nt0)

--

Q: What are the minimum hardware recommendations for the Alpha Trial?

A: RECOMMENDED WINDOWS PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

OS: Windows 7 or Vista (SP1)
Installed: Origin
CPU: Quadcore @ 2.0 GHz or faster
RAM: 4GB or more
Hard Drive: 7.25 GB free disk space
Video: 256 MB or greater
DirectX 10 or 11 compatible card with latest drivers (AMD 11.5 or later, nVidia 275.33 or later)
Sound: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible card
Internet: broadband connection

Note that these do not necessarily represent the requirements for the final game.

Q: Are the specs I have seen on the internet the official recommended Windows PC specs for Battlefield 3?

A: We have not announced our recommended or minimum specs so anything at this point is speculation. If you have been invited to the Windows PC version of the Alpha, the recommended specs for this particular test, and thus not reflective of the final version of the game.
