                                 PS3 Setup Guide…

Hello all..

If your like me and new to this XIM for the PS3 then look no further.
I’ll have you up and running in no time ready to frag.

First thing to do is download this file that I have uploaded to Rapidshare.
http://rapidshare.com/files/155430495/XIM_PS3.rar.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/155430495/XIM_PS3.rar.html)

This file contains the XIM.exe and config.exe plus profiles that I have found to work with the PS3 flawlessly.
Now there is no need to install the programs, all you need to do is just leave it somewhere, where it is easy to get at like your desktop for instance. The bright side to this is there is no install required so then it makes this portable that you can take with you on your flash drive.  (WooT)

                                    The Step Process…

1.  First thing you need is your XIM1 toolkit which you could make or buy one from ebay like I have done from here. This guy sells both the tool kit and adapter.. http://cgi.ebay.ca/XIM-mouse-keyboard-adapter-for-PS3-and-Xbox-360-Yobo_W0QQitemZ160403364046QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2558c918ce
(http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/i/001/1f/ed/d282_1.JPG)

2.  Next you will need to acquire a working PS2 – PS3 controller converter, refer to step 1.

3.  Next connect the two items and plug the controller adapter into the #1 USB port of your PS3 and the other end into a working USB port of your computer.

4.  Now your ready, so fire up your PS3 & PC with game of choice. Once the game is loaded then navigate to your controller setup with in the game and look at the button configuration, leave it here so you know what buttons to config.

5. Next start up the XIMconfig.exe to setup your keyboard mapping, I know this is setup for XBOX360 so I’ll convert it here for you so you know what buttons to set for the PS3.

   PS3                 XBOX360

Cross button    –  “A button”
Circle button    –  “B button”
Square button  –  “X button”
Triangle button –  “Y button”

6.  Once you have your desired buttons setup, “save as” your config to the name of the game so you know which configs are for what game for later use.

7. Now start up the XIM.exe and you should notice your mouse and keyborad buttons moving on the XIM interface.

8.  Ok depending on the game from experience, each game works different from one and the other I have noticed.

For example:
COD4 – I set my PS3 controller to #2 port with in PS3 system and left on.
Socom – I set my PS3 controller to #3 port and left on as well.
BiA: Hells Highway – I set my PS3 controller to port #1 and left on.
Battlefield: Bad Company - My PS3 controller is set to port 2 and left on.

So you see you may need to try different port settings to see what works for which game.

TIP: If you have done everything as I said here and you still get no movement from mouse & keyboard then simply remove the the controller adapter from the PS3 and plug it back in and it should now work.

TIP 2: Leave the PS3 controller on at all times, when I first started using and learning to use this stuff I kept turning off my controller and nothing would work. I’m not sure if others out there got this to work with the controllers off..

TIP 3: Q: Is there a way to have it press its "PS button" ?
A: up + backspace will count as a ps button press.

So there we go, this is my way to get my XIM to work with my PS3 and others out there may have different ways that have worked for them. BTW, this works with Windows XP Pro sp3 and  for Vista Ultimate.

I hope this helps some of you.
Good luck and happy fragging.

Downloaded the file.
Did you mean to include the SOCOM config? It's not in there...
Can you post it?  The fill config, not just sens settings. Not sure what to map where and even if I decide to change something your config will be a good start for me...
Thanks!

Hey first of all sorry for the late reply, I don't get on here as much as I used to..

As far as the mapping your config files just open your button config screen with in the game it's self then write down what button does what then open the config editor and config your buttons to what keys you want to use on the keyboard.

If you have two monitors hooked up like myself then all I do is open the confg editor on one screen and the ps3 button config screen onto the other and map from there.

You will have to monkey around with the movement sensitivity yourself to your liking of course.

This was / is a fantastic way to XIM.  I've done it just as you have outlined, and absolutely love the way it works now that I have things tweaked out for Resistance 2.  (I have a rotten old optical mouse, what can I say!)

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks.  It's posts like this that make folks on the fence about investing the $$$, like me, really glad they did.

Thanks again...

Hey no problem, I'm glad it worked out for you. It's always nice to see a thank you from time to time. I kind of wish I had a post like this when I first started to play around with this stuff but it took some time to figure it out from various posts here and there. Life would be boring with out a challenge.. lol
Happy fragging !   ;)

Thanks a lot for the great tut! Really made everything clear-cut and newb friendly :P. I just ordered the stuff I need, so hopefully I'll get this up and running before KZ2 is released.

One question: I've got a G5 mouse.. but what should I do about the keyboard? I was going to hook up the XIM to my laptop.. but then I'd be forced to use my laptop keyboard unless I went out and bought a seperate USB keyboard right?

I have a separate k/m from the laptop I use to run XIM...very easy to use on the couch from an amazingly lazy position.  I could grow roots on my couch once I'm set up.  Swear to god...

I know this might sound strange, but it's the ulitimte setup for the PS3, but i use the left Nunchuck of a FragFX, with PS3 controller software on my laptop.  The PS3 controller software is mapped to keys using Joy2key.  This was i get the beauty of the mouse, with the Ananloge left controller.  I use XAE-UE as the XIM software, as this supports left analogue input.

As many of you have come from using a FragFX (and find it a dissapointment, and badly built), may as well put it to good use.  As there isn't any Nunchuck controller yet for the PC, with enough buttons....

Hi , I would just buy a $20.00 keyboard from futureshop or some place. They are made for ps3 and work great. So how you liking the setup so far?

Sounds interesting, and that is some cool innovation going on there for sure.
I myself tho will stick to my keyboard as I'm what they call the old school PC junkie.. lol
But I'm sure there is others out there that would be interested in that setup.

I am really tempted to buy one of these Xim's for my ps3.
As i play'd cod4 / cs / css / cod2 / on pc quite alot....

But my pc has packed in and i have heard good and bad things about these Xims.

All i want to know is how close to Keyboard & mouse does it feel on call of duty 4.
I mean i am really good with controller. But 1000x better with KB&M

But i live in england & to buy a Xim is say £45 and then £20 shipping so £65 for me is alot of money to spend on a gadget that may or may not perform.

Can anyone help me out with this!

And proof does it work alot better than the Smart Joy Frag.
I tryed this once on cod4 & 5 /epic fail
And i was tweaking it for hours but unless i had the sensitivity on 1 or 2
(which made it impossible to turn without picking up and moving the mouse like 3 or 4 times)
Then the aiming was amazingly inacurate

Hello and welcome..

Now I have no idea if this works better then the next setup but i will tell you that I have been a PC gamer from the very get go and it is no different in terms of sensitivity and speed. I get around 63 updates per second and it works fine.

just to let you know tho, the last patch 2.70 really screwed things up for us here, because once you update your ps3 , it will no longer have controller adapter support, for some reason it freezes the ps3 machine once plugged into the usb port. A lot of people are experiencing the same thing at the moment. So until Sony fixes the problem I / we can't use our setup to play games. Now remember I'm speaking on behalf of people and myself that use TAC adapters.
I'm not sure if others out there are experiencing the same deal.

I hear from a friend about this problem.
He said the only reason why any adapters are not working after the update,
Is because people had the adaptors pluged in while the update was installing,
So is made the adaptor faulty.

The point being that if it wasn't pulged in while the update was installing then it would still be working.

I dont know if this is true but it sounds promissing.

All you need to do is get hold of the PS3 driver (free download from the net)(Win32 only, doesn't work with 64bit windows), as this allows a PS3 controller to be used with a PC, this will then allow the FragFX to be used as the left stick, ignore the mouse part of the fragfx, leave it too one side.

I use a Habu mouse, as it has 7 buttons, and all the buttons are configuratble.

Use a progam called Joy2key on the PC to translate the PS3 Controller buttons to keys to work with XAE-ME.

As XAE-ME will recognise the PS3 driver as a anologue stick, so it will work perfectly.  Just need to translate the Dpad, L1, L2 L3 Select & Start buttons to keys.

Easy as that... just takes a little time to configure, once configured its a sweet setup, much better than WASD

If u have any questions, let me know, and i will see if i can help.

Thanks HEAPS scam3r. Your info on using FragFX on XIM http://xim3.com/community/index.php?topic=531.msg7697#msg7697 was what I needed to set up just what I wanted.

I'm just holding the PS3 controller in my left hand, using JoyToKey to map the controller to keyboard and using XAE-ME to bind them to XIM with the analog stick function too.  I'm using a Logitech MX518 which I got for cheap with has enough buttons to map the right side of the gamepad to it.  On retrospect a Logi-G5 would have been slightly better with its left-right scroll buttons (for hard left/right macros).

I've fully configured my setup for the BF:BC2 beta that's happening.  I'll post my config in a  respective thread to contribute back to the community.

Hi all,

I've just received my XIM1+adaptater (apparently the brand is "Logic3", it's what's written on the front anyway) from ebay (by freakstyler87) and done the eight steps described but can't seem to have any signal received by the PS3.

I'm pretty sure the problem lies in the fact that the setup isn't correctly recognized as a pad : the adaptater's 4 leds keep all blinking together (as if it wasn't assigned to any pad number). Is there a way to have it press its "PS button" ? I hoped it would be the "Guide" button on the Config software but it seems it didn't do anything either.

On a side note, the software from the opening post seems to work fine : it correctly detects the xim when it is plugged on the pc (and conversely, gives a warning if it isn't or if it gets disconnected). It also correctly records my mouse and keyboard inputs according to the config (i see the inputs appearing on the software's picture of an xbox pad).

I've tried unplugging and replugging it from the ps3, before or after launching the software on the pc, to no avail.

Unfortunately I have no ps2 pads to test the adapter alone, but I have some ps1 pads that I could have access to. (side question : in the case of those ps2 adapters, how are you supposed to press the PS button ? i mean, even when you use those adapters as intended ?)

Could anybody help me ?

I'm pretty sure that up+backspace will count as a ps button press. Anyway most people use the yobo adapter, in the past other adapters stopped working as the ps3 firmware was upgraded. It would really help the situation if you could get your hands on a ps2 controller.

Thanks a lot, it worked.

That information should be added in the opening post somewhere, as it is quite a necessary one to get things working.

About the adapter : well, i use the one that i received :s I'm only getting 33 updates/sec but it still seems to run quite smoothly without any noticeable lag (although i had no time to test for more than a few seconds right now).

Will a Yobo provide more (60 updates/sec) ?

Yobo should deliver 60-63 consistently, depending on the build.  (I get 62.)  If you're getting less, something is wonky methinks.

Hello peeps, OP here, it's been a year to the day since I last updated this thread.. yikes  lol

Anyways I'm going to order the Yobo controller adapter to check to see if Sony's firmware updates still honor it then get back to you.
I haven't used my setup in a long time but I'm itch-en to get back into it.

I'll keep you guys posted.

FYI, I too have an old fragfx controller here but I haven't tried that system yet, time to hit the drawing board.

Hello, Thanks Gerfle for the guide, I have recently purchased a XIM1 and have tried to get it to work on the PS3 Slim 250gb and need some help!

Firstly I've followed the guide but am a little bit confused on reassigning the controller? If I reassign the controller the MW2 simply says "please reconnect the controller".

Though even if the controller is connected as #1 I still cannot look around via mouse despite XIM software running?

Any ideas?
Thanks  :)

Hello all

First off thanks for the guide Gerfle.

I built my own XIM using OBsIV's guide and have a Venom adapter.

I copied all the files across and had a brief go last night it worked of a sort in MW2 I could shoot, reload etc. but not move with the mouse, I think I need to play around with the config a bit more when I get chance.

I was quite encouraged with my progress so far though!

I have a couple of little questions though.

Can anyone tell me what the ps3ximconfig.exe file is for? It doesn't run in Windows 7 it has some compatability error. It seems to open then close a dos box in XP.
The laptop I use for XIM runs XP. There is no mention of this program in the guide?

My other noobie question is basically round the config bit. Could you just confirm how the configs work.

I think that the default.xim is the config that gets loaded into the XIM.exe program and I'm guessing that you use ximconfig.exe program and the xim manager to swap the configs over?

Any info on the above would be appreciated.

Cheers

BimB

ps3ximconfig.exe is just a tweaked version of ximconfig.exe that shows ps3 buttons (sort of) rather than xbox buttons.
you don't need it.
yes, default.xim is what's loaded when xim.exe starts.
yes, use ximconfig.exe and manager to swap.

(btw, if you pretty much play cod4,5,6 or halo3 only, make that your default.xim file, obviously...)

In your step process you show a link on ebay for a xim 1 and a yobo together.  Then the next step is to buy a yobo.  So I need to buy one Xim 1 and two YOBOs?  What's up bro.

you don't need a xim1 and yobo for ps3

In your step process you show a link on ebay for a xim 1 and a yobo together.  Then the next step is to buy a yobo.  So I need to buy one Xim 1 and two YOBOs?  What's up bro.

Well before when I first started this thread, you could only buy the tool kit by it's self and the adapter by it's self, but after doing a little research in ebay. I see some one has the adapter and tool kit as a package which is great. So you get those and you can skip the section I had in there for adapters.

no idea either...
this actually doesn't have a thing to do with ps3/xim1 setups, but when I get back to my gear on sunday or monday I'll run the default xim s/w and check (I don't use it, use xEmulate but it doesn't show update rate while playing)

Uber has xim2/xba+ now though and he does use default s/w I think, so maybe he can post that here or in one of his other threads and give us the 411.

Hi guys :)

I'm a bit confused about one thing. Do I need to have the XIM connected to a PC at all times? or only when I configure it ???

Hello everybody.

I tried this tuto and one of my xim seems to be working (i built two so i may have to resolder the other). I mean working as in the software detect it and shows the input on the screen.

But it doesn't work on the ps3. It tried everything but it doesn't work. The only thing i get is on MW2 a message saying that my pad is deconnected when i unplug the yobo, message that disappear if i recoonect it but no inputs work not even the "up + backspace".

Any idea ? Someone can tell me exactly how he make it work from running the software to making headshots (like 1-turn on the xim, 2-plug it, etc...)

Anyway thanks for all.

With everything plugged in and turned off...

1)  Turn on PS3 by hand at the unit -- do not use controller
2)  Turn on PC
3)  Open XIM and launch via up/backspace if you have the Yobo (which you should have, since it rules....)

Works every time.

Hi, Ive been searching for information on the XIM on Google and it directed me to this thread, I'm a total XIM noob and ive searched and learned as much as I could about the setup(i'm a ps3 user) and right now i'm using the Fragnstein but I get a lot of "dead zones" with it and even though it has greatly increased my accuracy from using the regular controller I am a PC gamer at heart and am use to FPS with mouse and keyboard. So I guess my question is while you're using the XIM and have it hooked up and have the software on, you use the mouse and keyboard from your computer correct?(the keyboard and mouse is connect to your pc) if so then that means your PS3 needs to be next to your computer/moniter and television? or could you use a wireless keyboard/mouse? I'm asking this because my tv and ps3 is in a different room than my computer. Did I get anything right or am I totally off and don't know what i'm talking about?

Sorry for being that guy with 1 post asking for information but ive searched and searched and could not find a answer to my question. Thanks for reading!!!
