12k on most mice and yes.

But i say no. I use 12k dpi when a 1.31 xy with a curve and boost for more acceleration. That way with a flick of the wrist i can instantly 180.

What's the advantage of running a curve vs just higher sensitivity?

A curve can maintain granular control at low hand speed, while cranking up the turn speed on fast movements. Basically, curves add or remove acceleration where you want it.
