how to/use extended USB cable with Xim4
« on: 10:41 PM - 12/18/17 »
It seems to be a problem that using a USB extension cable wont give the Xim4 enough power to operate the mouse and keybaord. Is there a USB extension cable that can power it correctly? maybe someone put a link up that will work for sure? Thanks !!!

How long is your USB cable?

I used to run a 5m active USB cable between the console and Xim4. It worked ok, but would bomb if my controller was even slightly undercharged.

To supplement the Xim's power, add a powered USB 2.0 hub to your setup. M/kb into the hub, hub into Xim4.

There's always a chance your USB cable is a dud.

I still run a 10ft passive USB cable from Xim to a powered USB switch that leads to my console, no it's not likely to be a problem with the Xim.

The key is to ensure you've got enough juice between the console and your Xim-connected m/kb as the current will degrade over the cable run. A powered USB hub or switch should resolve power drain or loss issues.

It will also depend on the power draw of the peripherals attached to XIM4. One cable could work for a lower power setup but it may not for a setup that draws more power. You could always try an active/repeater cable. Try to keep the cable length under 16' if you can.
